Awful bitter coffee
I have wanted to try Rwanden coffee for years and was tempted by the price at Costco, but they always roast badly. It always tastes burned, so I tried this based on reviews. It sounded like a good company and I like that it is run by a women's coop. That said I really wanted to like this coffee, but it is frankly awful! We have been drinking African coffees for around 30 years and though each has a different flavor profile, they are my favorites. We have had an Ethiopian yergecheffe on subscription for around 20 years, and I had to try a good many before I found a good roaster here. They have apparently gotten too big and their coffee is not what it used to be, so we have gone exploring. I have found a nice Tanzanian, and we have a good Kenya AA on subscription, so I decided it was time to try Rwanden. I hope this is not representative because I have 2 more orders from different roasters on the way.To get back to this specific coffee. It is described as a dark roast , which is odd as most African coffees do best with a medium to light roast. I decided to try it anyway because I wanted some for espresso. The beans actually loook more like a medium than a dark roast. They are dry, not fresh and oily. When it tasted off I checked the date, and while it does not have a production date, the best by date is July 2021... 8 months away!Intelligencia refused to ship their Black Cat Intarsia to Hawaii because second day air takes 3-4 days and they want their coffee to arrive fresher than that.8 months to the best by date?I would return it if I could.I can not say this is better than supermarket coffee even because it is so bitter :(I honesxtly wanted to like this, was looking fgorward to it, but I find it barely tolerable coffee.

This is real high-quality Rwandan coffee...something that is hard to find here in the USA
This coffee is an answer to prayer for me! I have traveled twice to Rwanda in the last 2 years and one of the things I fell in love with there was the coffee. I brought as much home as I could. One of my hosts gave me several bags of this coffee while I was there, but packaged locally. I ran out months ago. When I saw the elephant logo, I knew I was in the right place. Having this available on Amazon for Prime shipping is even better. Thank you, Westrock, for making this great coffee available here in the USA. You guys rock!

Great value for the price for a company that cares
I was looking for a reasonably priced coffee from Rwanda because I like what’s happening in that country. Westrock seems to be a decent company regarding the prices it pays to the coffe growers there. The Dark Roast is a very pleasant tasting coffee although I was expecting a more espresso type of coffee. But it is high quality and I will continue to buy.

great price not so great taste
Price was great for the 3 bags however the coffee taste was boring. We like very strong coffee so we were disappointed in the taste but the average coffee drinker would like it.

Worth waking up to...
Thrift undoubtedly is a virtue, and no one wants to spend more than we have to - but what's the point of drinking cheap coffee if you don't enjoy it. There's coffee - and then there's coffee, this is coffee.

The coffee very good flavor, some packing issues
I would rate as medium dark roast band not bad dark roast. The packaging when opened removed part of the inter liner. The tie for resealing the package to keep content fresh fell off prior to opening package. The coffee itself has a nice flavor.

Expires 11 days after delivery?
I bought this coffee with the intention of giving it to my husband for his birthday along with some other coffee related items. Upon inspection I noted that the coffee expires August 2nd, 2017, just 11 days after purchase. Considering I bought this a bit in advance it will have expired by the time I give it to him.

The best East African coffee we have found.
Our family lived in East Africa for 10 years and we spent a long time looking for a nice East African coffee to remind us of our old home. Finally found a great one with the Westrock Rwanda Reserve. Dark but not burned or bitter, and just a slight fruity hint. We don’t really care for the other Westrock roasts that much, but we will definitely continue buying this one.
