You do wish them to be tight. A loose fit negates the dampening. Sometimes you need to find your "angle" or pull on the ear upwards to achieve fit. If you feel uncomfortable pressure you may wish to downgrade the sizing, but keep in mind, it is the compression of the rubber in the ear canal that achieves the defensive blockage.

These earplugs did not fit my ears and I returned them.

Just plastic, rubber, foam, and the little metal chain attached to the carry case. I think this is just one of the many products that California, and only California, lists a cancer warning on.
