NOFX: The Hepatitis Bathtub and Other Stories

Great Book and a Trip Down Memory Lane
Fast paced, candid, fun, easy to read and shocking (if i had not grown up with many of these guys - but I did). And honestly, even I was surprised at some of their antics, and that they documented them! This book is written with humility and self-deprecating humor. Two qualities not often achieved in autobiographical books about “rock stars” and very refreshing. The author and the band were able to give us four different life stories, and show the reader how they got from there to here. They also chronicled the progression of alcoholism and addiction perfectly, in a way many people will relate to in some way. I especially like the way they showed the extreme level of denial that is involved in alcoholism, and leaves us wondering when Mike will really admit to himself (out loud) and surrender his disease. Hopefully before it costs him his life. That adorable daughter he clearly loves, deserves to have her father present physically, emotionally and spiritually. My father was an alcoholic man child, and while it could be fun and “cool”, it also left me wondering what it would be like to have a real parent. Kids do what they see, whether we encourage them to do what we say or not. This book was an honest look at the LA/Hollywood punk rock scene in the 80s which was a historically important, and really fun time. It was an inside look at the music business, and the reasons why so many got into punk early, and what the costs were physically, financially and socially to the pioneers of LA punk rock. It wasn’t always safe to walk around Los Angeles with a pink Mohawk, or in drag, even in Hollywood. The probability of getting in a fight, getting kicked out of places and being discriminated against was high to 100%. We were not even allowed in to Disneyland back then unless we dressed “acceptably” and hid our dyed hair and Mohawks, (it’s a family park, is what they told us and they got away with that crap back then!). So all you with pink streaks in your hair, and bondage pants during the 90s, or even now, can thank people me, and these guys, for paving the way, and paying the price. This book really communicates the tribe mentality and camaraderie among the punks in the beginning. Even though there was a lot of in-fighting amongst us, we had to stick together against the non-punks back then. I rate a book on many things, first and foremost: did it keep my attention, was it well written to the point that I forget the story teller and become immersed in the story, did I feel something or learn something from it, and did I enjoy it? All answers are absolutely! Read this book, unless you’re offended by bad language, addiction, alcoholism, criminal behavior, fighting, sex, kinky stuff and debauchery. Then you probably won’t like it. I loved it. Read it in a few days before bed. Fell asleep laughing. Bravo for this book NOFX.

Excellent book. Hilarious, heartfelt, and Punk Rock!
Even as a teenager in the mid-90's who was really into punk, I could never get into NOFX as a whole. But even though I didn't really like their brand of punk rock, I always respected them and was amused by their attitude. So when this book came out, I was interested. While it took me a couple of years to get around to buying it, I tore through it quick! It is an excellent read. Very entertaining and insightful. While everyone tells different, hilarious, and heartfelt stories, Smelly really steals the show. Kind of like he does with his drumming.By the end of the book, when the guys started talking about heavy familial matters such as parents dying and whatnot, I gotta admit, a few tears were shed because by the end of the book you had a much greater sense of the individuals in the group and really felt for them.So yeah, you are gonna get plenty of talk about drugs, hijinks, and how incredibly stupid and violent the early 80's So. Cal punk scene was, but you also get to know the band as humans and individuals.Recommended to any fan of punk and fun storytelling in general. I was thoroughly entertained and sad when the book was finished, which is always the sign of a good read!

Great family read
Let me paint a picture for you. It's a pleasant July afternoon in Texas. I get home from work, wash up, and change after a long day. My wife has been taking care of my almost four-month-old daughter, so now that I'm home it's my time with my baby girl while my wife gets some free time.I get my daughter, phone, tablet, and speaker. My baby and I sit in the back patio on a relaxing hammock chair I installed at the beginning of this COVID thing. I turn on some tunes and feel nostalgic as my baby and I enjoy music from my high school days back in the early 2000s. Now we're comfortable, cradling my baby on one arm and having my tablet on the other, picking up on where I left off in my reading with the wind from the fan keeping us cool. Now on to my book...Melvin is at an S&M club with Mike and he decides to go up on stage. Melvin then proceeds to be violated while blindfolded and tied, all he feels is something being shoved up his ass. Then Mike....having a sliced pepper being shoved up his ass, nipple clamps, butt plugs, and cock rings through airport metal detectors.Overall, a wonderful afternoon spent with my sweet, precious, innocent baby girl. My only problem is that I finished my book and it left me wanting more.

I read an entire book
Pretty rare for me to make it through a whole book (thanks dyslexia), also pretty rare to read a music bio book that goes into the details of how screwed up people can get but also has some light at the end of tunnel redemption. This is not just a laundry list of all the dumb sh*t each band member got into although there is a fair amount of that. Its also an interesting read on one of the few bands that is truly an independent and has been doing it for a very long time successfully and on their own terms to say the least.Eriks story takes center stage here and rightfully so as it could be used as a model for anyone whos life has gone totally off the rails and needs to know that they can come out the other side.Ill admit I am biased because I was lucky enough to call Erik a friend of mine when I lived in California for a few years. I knew some of the back story already just not in the vivid detail in the book.. Its even more amazing when you know the guy because he is one of better quality people you will ever meet. Just glad I met post rehab Erik and not the one who would have d*ck punched me for fun.So yeah.. I read it in one day and Ill give it five stars and I hate to read.

Producto nuevo (?)
