Great story telling, superbly executed and beautifully written
I decided to buy this book based simply on the synopsis, which I found intriguing, and didn't bother reading any of the reviews. Well, what can I say? I found this to be an amazing and well thought out plot that was expertly executed. It was a really enjoyable read that definitely kept me intrigued throughout. The author slowly and very cleverly gave the reader a bite of what was to come by setting the scene for the whole story at the very beginning but without giving anything away; if you know what I mean. You just had to keep on reading to get the answers you wanted and in doing so you got a real feel for the lead characters, their life story and that of people around them who all played a part in fitting the pieces of a very intriguing puzzle. This was a book that could not be rushed, every chapter was significant that you simply had to read it at the pace it was set otherwise you would miss out on all the very important bits of the plot as the story unfolded.I do not want to give anything away but I will say that I really connected with Sparrow the female lead and although it was told in a dual POV for me this book was primarily about her. She was strong, self assured and did not take any crap from anyone least of all Troy despite the unfortunate circumstances she found herself in! But what was also delivered from the story was the hate that eventually turned to love relationship between Sparrow and Troy and in the HEA that true love will always win out in the end no matter how ugly, no matter the pain and the hurt to get there.I also admired the way the author used the "sparrow" and its meaning as an underlying theme throughout the book; this was very cleverly done in a very well written story that was superbly told and in my view beautifully written. One of the best books I've read so far this year and I do a lot of reading! Definitely a book I will be reading again and will look out for more from this author.

An enjoyable read
An enjoyable read. A good storyline, highs and lows of happy and sad moments. I loved Troy’s character from the off, liked Sparrow. They had good chemistry although based on hate rather than love, they were both so passionate with what they didn’t want to happen and were both in denial. What a pair Cat and Brock turned out to be, poor little Sam. Lots to like about this story, I would definitely recommend.

WOW!! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED....
This is the first book I've read of L J Shen, but can definitely say it will not be my last! She will most definitely be on my list of authors that I one click automatically whenever a new book is released without even reading the blurb!!OMG! This book was absolutely amazing and I literally devoured it from cover to end, for me this book was one of those that whilst reading I was continuously fighting with my self because part of me wanted to completely read it in one sitting and the other part wanted to slow down just so I could enjoy it for longer. Loved the concept of the story, how Troy and Sparrow knew of each other before they got married even though they had hardly any interaction with each prior to their nuptials, making them both wary of each other.I love bad boy villains so Troy was perfect, I fell in love with his character, loved how LJ Shen let us in his head so that we could see that even though he portrayed an outer shell of indifference and coldness, he was much more than that and all he really needed was a little birdie to come and slowly peck away at his outer armour until she found the path that led straight to his heart. A heart that he had closed off after not only losing his father but also after a woman whom he believed he was in love with betrayed him.I loved Sparrow, she was feisty and compassionate, she refused to be bullied by anyone even if he was the most feared man that also happened to be her new husband, loved how even she was scared she never backed down.Together Troy and Sparrow were mind blowing and their chemistry sizzled off the pages. It was great to read how the hate they felt for each other gradually changed to love without either really being aware of it.This book had everything that makes a book unforgettable for me and I will definitely be adding it to my pile of books that I re read, so that I can enjoy Troy and Sparrow's story again and again!Loved this book! If you haven't read it yet you're truly missing out on a great read!!

YES!
With a book review blog not reading for a while isn’t really an option, so I picked up Sparrow by L.J.Shen with the intention of forcing myself through it even if I didn’t really want to read. But I am so glad I did. It was bloody AMAZING. I started getting into it on my break, then when I came home from work at 7am instead of going to bed I stayed up and finished it. I had to. It had its claws in me. Deep. In work I was reading and laughing to myself, grinning and having toe curling moments all on my 60 minute break. I literally struggled to put it away. I loved the brutality of certain parts. The directness, the honesty and the sexiness of others bits just made this a really refreshing read.Troy Brennan is a ‘Fixer’ and the son of a dead mobster boss. If you have a problem, he can make it go away and I love how Shen doesn’t shy away from using blood and violence. He forces Sparrow Raynes into marriage, for reasons he’s not willing to share, but their union turns out differently than he expects as he realises that Sparrow isn’t going to take everything sitting down. She’s feisty, independent and doesn’t need Troy or his money, so buying her off to keep her happy isn’t going to work. This book is told from dual POV which I thought was great, because unlike some of the other reviewers on Amazon I LOVED Troy. Yes he’s flawed, and at times a bit of a muppet but he’s the son of a mobster, involved in an organisation that is full of traitors and backstabbers waiting for him to trip up. Who would come out of that unscathed? I also loved Sparrow, she has a fiery temper and a determination that makes her perfect for the guy who bribes, buys, kills or tortures his way into getting everything. So thank you L.J.Shen, because you brought me out of my book funk with a dark, funny, sexy story that left me wanting more.

One of the best readings of my life
I read Sparrow a time ago, but it’s one of my favorites books of my life. Troy Brennan is a complex character with a lot of luggage. He is serious, grumpy, and mistrustful. But Sailor came to turn his world in another direction. His Red is a smart, kind and clever woman, she is not easy to handle and she is the only one to get out of control and make feel The Fixer. I absolutely enjoy reading about this couple and I’m glad another series are coming. They are the parents of Sailor, the main character of The Hunter... another amazing book of the talented L.J. Shen.

And somehow, a lovebird finds its freedom in its own predator!
4,5 starsI can't believe it took me so long to start reading this author! But it was so worth the wait!Sparrow is an intense and unputdownable reading! It was thrilling and addicting. The writing was just so fascinating, and I couldn't stop reading, and I was sucking every word and every character and I just needed more!Troy Brennan is by no means a good person. But dont mistake him, he is no bad boy either! He is denifitely a bad man.He is ruthless, merciless, fearless. But in his own twisted way, he is his own kind of fair. Without a doubt, he was intoxicating!"I don't think anyone ever felt more intoxicated from another person as I was intoxicated from Troy Brennan. The scary stranger turned cruel husband"Troy, The Fixer, can be a nightmare. Specially for someone as free and independent as Sparrow. But at the same time, she is exactly his size, and just what he needs. When they get married (don't worry, it's not a spoiler, the story kind of begins like that), we don't know exactly the reason, but we can definitely tell that Troy woozes darkness and will try to do everything to keep his lovebird caged. He is full of flaw and danger, he was a liar. But as time went on and he got to understand how Sparrow flew, he was the one enthralled."I was so used telling Sparrow how much she wanted me, I forgot a small little detail - I wanted her back. More"They were intense and didn't really know how to deal with what they were feeling. It didn't started from love. Not even liking. It was from anger, fear and resentment. It started out as a secret. That turned into lust. That bloomed into need and, finally, grew as all consuming love."He always managed to make my heart float. Whether it was out of fear, out of fury or out of love"The book was, as I said, intense and so well written. I didn't want to stop and I spent days trying to come up with this review, and I know I'm not doing a good enough job, because I loved the story and the characters.I loved how obsessed I was with the plot and with what they were about to go into. I wanted more, I wanted all, and I definitely want more books by this author.Troy and Sparrow were their own brand of couple and romance. They consumed themselves, they were prey and predator living a love that very few would understand, because at the end of the day, they belonged to the same nest."I'm an as*****, was an as*****, and have every intention of staying an as*****. It's the makeup of my f****** DNA. But I want to be your as*****. To you, I can be good. Maybe even great. For you, I'll stop the rain from falling and the thunder from cracking and the wind from f****** blowing. And yes, I sure as hell knew you'd come back. You came straight back into my arms, flew back to your nest, lovebird"
