AWESOME Graphic Novel (!!!!!)
I am a HUGE lifelong fan of Charlie (Bird) Parker and his music. This is a genius and phenomenal graphic novel that communicates Bird's musical brilliance; his passionate unstable life while in California in 1945; and all his high points and low points where Bird and the great Dizzy Gillespie brought bebop, an exciting new jazz art form, to the West Coast. This poignant and powerful book explodes with dramatic images and breathtaking color as only comic book sensation Dave Chisholm can deliver as it chronicles Bird and his adventures in Los Angles.Chasin' The Bird delivers Bird's powerful blazing sax stylings during jam sessions in visual form along with interesting antidotes of his life during this crucial and creative time - including crashing on people's couches like a homeless college kid, raising havoc in public places, and recording some of his most groundbreaking trailblazing including "A Night in Tunisia."But this book is not some boring biography that puts you to sleep. If you are familiar with the many graphic novels of comic-book icon Dave Chisholm, who is slowly taking over the mantle of comic book genius Alan Moore, you know by now that Chisholm has a unique ability to transport readers to visual worlds never experienced.Chasin' The Bird fuses powerful spectacular images with magnificent and stunning splashes of vibrant color to explore the mind, emotions, experiences and craft of Bird in an extremely creative way. It is the brilliant visual images of this graphic novel that deeply examine Bird's relationships, interesting characters surrounding him during his time in LA, and pivotal events and experiences he encountered to make him the sensational musical icon Bird is today.Run, do not walk, to buy this book today! FIVE STARS!!!!

Artist integrity, intent, and a vibe like no other ... I dig!
What a beautiful and thoughtful publication!Through the lens of a true artist/educator - Dave Chisholm, with Peter Markowski, filled every possible inch of these pages with artistic intent and a truly intoxicating vibe. This "graphic novel" masterfully captures glimpses of Charlie Parker's life in CA and does so in such a hip, real, and dark way...After you enjoy each thoughtfully written page - be sure to go back through to soak in the countless artistic nuances that tell just as much of the story as the text does.I can't wait for Dave + Peter to release another!

Stunning art and writing!
This is a beautiful book. The amount of work and talent that went into this book shows on every page. The chapters are well-written, complex and interesting stories. I say complex because this isn’t just a “comic book” - the writing is really compelling. The artwork is stunning. I bought this for my son as a gift, because he is a musician, so I didn’t necessarily think *I* would enjoy it as much as I did. I think this book is underpriced for what you get!

A creative, inspiring, and touching portrayal.
I am a jazz studies student at the University of North Texas and I adore this book! The artwork is fantastic and I love the way the portrayed Charlie Parker, by focusing on the music, personality, and artistry first and foremost. This publication is an interesting combination of two worlds that don't collide often. This book is a wonderful representation of an important chapter in Black American Music and is a strong step forward in making jazz music accessible and diverse.

You can feel the music coming from the pages!!!
You can feel the music on the page. I love music themed comics and this is among the very best. One of my favorite books of the last year and my lifetime. Such a fascinating person and wonderfully illustrated. The pages layouts and style changes for certain pages/stories is just perfection. A must read.

Wow, this is amazing!
This book is truly insightful and plays out like a movie. The font size is a little small, but one has to just slow down and take time and experience the entire story. So great I purchased two(2) and sent one to my great friend. I want more. I love it.

Gorgeous Art with Fascinating Insight Into Substance Abuse and Legend Making,
If you are a fan of Charlie Parker's work, this piece will fill you up with warmth and wonder. The artwork is fitting, and the author engages the focal point with love, deference, without walking on edge shells with his faults. This graphic novel has artwork that is at time absolutely stunning. Highly Recommended.
