Q: Does the bottom of the opening side fit into a bracket or something?

Yes, both the top and the bottom go into brackets, making the gate secure. I have these gates on three doorways in my house to close off rooms that I don't want my dogs to go into. They are sturdy and have done a great job holding up against my dogs leaning against them.

Q: Can anyone with a gate after the 2016 design change upload a photo of the hinges (which reportedly don't allow the gate to be lifted off easily)?

I have bought this gate repeatedly for over 10 years.I just bought one in feb 2019 and the hinges are the same.

Q: Our gate is impossible to open with one hand only and it is not sliding well at all, is this typical with this gate?

I actually have three of these gates. It is easy to open if u squeeze, push toward the wall and then open.

Q: Is the gate still 32 inches after it is installed?

The top of my gate as installed is 35 inches from the floor.
