That Darn Cat [DVD]

a Disney treasure
I ordered this as a sort of afterthought and am very glad I did now. And at a great price. The story is good and well directed, I thought. There's plenty of suspense and an amazing cast of characters including Frank Gorshin (Riddler in Batman, for those of you who are too young to know), Elsa Lanchester as the nosey neighbor, and William Damarest, her husband. Roddy McDowall 's wonderful in this, for those of you who like him. And the cat is amazing if you adore Siamese cats as I do and think they really are the smartest creatures on earth. I was delighted by this old Disney film- I'd never seen it before. Mills is wonderful in her role - I never cease to be amazed by her talent and charm and the complete innocence and authenticity of her character. I think the Disney movies Robert Stevenson directed are the best (Mary Poppins ) and maybe why we see such amazing acting in Mills - he was English and for me that added such flavor to Disney I don't get in other Disney movies. You can't wrong with this classic - it's sweet, fun, and clean - like old Disney. Good for kids and adults , although there is a scene very early into the film (after the credits and after Gorshin leaves the deli) which as a parent might concern me for those who are very sensitive to what their children see - a very brief moment when one of the kidnappers fingers the throat of their would be woman victim's neck. Just thought I'd alert the very sensitive viewers- but way less violent when you think about it than Treasure Island. It's a wonderful film especially for 60s nostalgics like myself who love Mills and McDowell and Gorsham. The other characters are fun too though I wondered what Disney was thinking when he cast the woman playing Mill's older sister - that was a bloop, but the only one in this wonderful film. She's alright I guess, but just not right in the role I thought. Have fun!

Great Family Film
Our whole family LOVES this. If you have a cat, you will smile when you watch this! Our family can't seem to find much to watch on TV these days, so we have begun buying DVD's from the 1930's to the 1960's. Maybe a few 1970's, but that's it. You can get a pretty good "arsenal of great family films this way, and watch them whenever you want! And NO idiot commercials!!!

Cat Movie
This is a good cat movie and seems true to cat behavior. Having grown up with an inside/outside cat plus a cat in the barnyard. The barnyard cat made his hunting range out of three ranches and would stay until the mouse population was decreased and then move to a different ranch. The inside cat would also want attention for her mouse catching ability.

My opinion is biased
This film stirred up fond memories from my childhood. A bit of nostalgia is a good thing.

That Cat!
My family set down one evening to watch this movie. Our Granddaughter, Sophmore at one of the universities in the area wants it for Christmas. It was an entertaining movie and fun to watch! The various charters were somewhat weak but it was a fun evening.

Nothing beats the original!
Once upon a time in the late 1990s, I got wind of the 1997 film, THAT DARN CAT. With Christina Ricci and Doug E. Doug. I had the pleasure of seeing it when it aired on the Disney Channel while it was still good for the kids and the parents. I did not have the respect and full-blown appreciation for the classics that I do these days. That's why when I heard of the original 1965 version, I thought, "Yeah. Whatever." Fast forward to today, or about a year or so ago, I finally got curious, and saw THAT DARN CAT! (1965) on Disney+. Now, I find the original superior to the remake in a lot of good ways. Unlike the 1997 movie, D.C. (a.k.a. Darn Cat) is indeed the star. Or the co-star at best. Anyway, D.C. goes on the prowl, followed by his friend and owner, Patti Randall, who is tailed professionally and helpfully by Zeke Kelso, who is followed clumsily by a suspicious boyfriend, who is followed by nosy neighbors. In other words, the crazies literally follow D.C.. Not like the remake, where the crazies seem to happen by themselves. The other and BETTER thing, in my opinion, is the chemistry between the lovable Hayley Mills (the original Patty Randall) and Dean Jones (the OG Agent Zeke Kelso). But I won't tell you everything. See it for yourselves! And if you are like me and you discovered the remake first....DEFINITELY SEE THIS ONE! The ORIGINAL!

Chat alors!
