Butterflies of the World Hardcover – October 15, 2018

Gave it as a gift for a young child who absolutely loves butterflies. You should have seen his glee. Priceless 😁.

This book is clearly a work of love by the author. The photos are superb and the entomological facts presented for each image assist greatly in understanding these beautiful insects. It is a great book for learning both how to photograph and how to identify butterflies.

The book is described on the dust cover as " the best book of its kind on the market anywhere in the world" but I doubt if Feltwells book " the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Butterflies" was taken into account as for me it is a much better book.Ignoring the differences in classification and taxonomy between the two books, this book has an introduction,chapters on origin and evolution and butterfly biology.There is a description of 7 famailies recognised by the author that include the skippers and some moths while there is a concluding chapter on habitat and conservation.The illustrations and text are first class.
