Yes, the blade is super sharp out of the box and seems to hold a fine edge considering it is not high carbon steel.

Q: Is this a good self defense combat knife?

This is a very good quality knife. I’m not sure if I would clash this as a good self defense knife. The reason is because it’s so large. It’s more of a small Bowie knife. Extremely razor sharp though. And it keeps a good quality age if you use the correct sharpener. For hunting it would be a great knife to have. I carry it when I go hunting myself.
