Review: Informative but with poor story and art - This book's interest relies on some interesting facts about the Cherokee culture. Leaving that apart, it is not graphically appealing and the story is very descriptive without an interesting plot. Seems to be a reference book, depicting the living of a minority culture, but not worth the praises am reading here. Creating sensitivity about the cultures of minority groups and being able to see the point of view of Cherokee people is very good and interesting (when many of us have grown watching westerns with a completely different point of view). However, this piece of work by itself is not good in storytelling and art is worse than average. Review: I love reading this to my children at the daycare and to my own son- it has a great message, there is a Lot to learn, and it remains simple, fun and interesting. I do recommend the audiobook for help with word pronunciation

I used this book for a mini unit study in homeschooling. This is a wonderful book looking at a year in the life of a Cherokee family and all the things they celebrate and are thankful for. I love how it shows the changes in the trees as the year progresses. I used these to make our science about the changing seasons and trees. We studied the Trail of Tears for our History part which is mentioned in this book. It tells of Cherokee holidays and how they celebrate them also. We loved this book!! Our favorite part was how it gave the Cherokee word, the pronunciation, and then the word written in the Cherokee language.

Love this book, bought it time again and again. Passing on stories to the youth about ancestors and culture.

This is a good book to use for your Native American unit in your classroom. I used it for third grade.
