Recommend this book to everyone
I bought this book for an online training for school counseling and anxiety. I have since used this book countless times as a school counselor and licensed professional counselor. For so many anxiety issues for all ages! The information found in this book can utilized in so many instances for coping skills and realizing they do have some control over their situation. I work in a high poverty school, my school even bought copies so we could loan them out to parents. Sometimes the books don't get returned but I always replace them because it is such a fantastic resource. I still go back and find more information on a diagnosis or a different way to handle a situation. LOVE THIS BOOK!! I have multiple copies and fully intend to replace any that don't come back!

The best and most helpful book I have ever encountered on ...
The best and most helpful book I have ever encountered on anxiety. I have 10 years' experience counseling children and adolescents, but this book helped me to understand the thoughts and feelings of the anxious child in a whole new light. (Even though I have a graduate degree in clinical psychology). It can be very hard for parents and other adults to relate to anxious children because they don't understand how gripping the negative feelings are, or the cognitive processes behind the anxiety that make it so hard to break. This book helps de-mystify the "whys" behind anxiety, both psychologically and biologically. It also offers extremely practical "solutions" for dealing with anxiety, basically some cognitive behavioral therapy techniques that the lay person can do within the context of a family or close relationship with the child. We purchased this book when my daughter had an anxiety relapse and couldn't get in to see her former psychologist for several months. The book provided some strategies we could implement to deescalate the negative emotions she was having. It offered her immense relief without a lot of effort on our part. This book doesn't replace a trained therapist, but I think every parent struggling with an anxious child should read this book before starting therapy (at least the information chapters). Understanding the child's anxiety is the first step toward helping him conquer it, and this book does an incredible job of explaining to the concerned adult in his life.I have struggled myself with anxiety, and I felt that this book really helped me pinpoint my own erroneous thought processes and pointed me in the direction of healthier thinking. The strategies listed are really just cognitive behavioral therapy using kid-friendly language. However, even adults can benefit from reading this book. The same strategies work for adults, with or without the cutesy phrases (up to you!)The only negative comment I have is that the book is SO informative and dense, I felt like I needed to sit and read (some passages 2-3 times) in silence and with a highlighter to truly capture everything being said. This is not something I really have much occasion to do in my life as a busy mom of three, but I tried to devote as much time as I could to do the book due to the severity of the situation with our daughter. This is not really a knock on the book, just plan on having some quiet and concentration before you can get the most out of it!CAN'T RECOMMEND ENOUGH for someone who loves, or works with, a child suffering from anxiety.

Book came with a ripped page
I haven’t gotten far enough into the content but I’m pretty annoyed about the ripped page. I need this book now for a class, so I don’t have time to exchange it.
