No, it works on white hair. Henna doesn't lighten the hair. Henna only gives color to white hair.

Q: Can this be used on hair that has been previously dyed?

Hi. This is the answer from the manufacturer's FAQ section for the question, "May I use Surya Henna coloring either before or after a chemical process?" "Yes you can, but do a strand test before applying henna on hair that has been bleached with ammonia. Remember, Surya henna won't lighten hair, as its ingredients are much better for hair than the ammonia in most commercial permanent dyes."

My hair is right below my shoulders and I use one. My hair is not thick or thin but I have a lot of hair. Why not buy two and have the 2nd on hand just in case?

Presuming only that you would like to continue using henna, I chose to use a darker shade of brown, a little darker than my natural color. The copper look was gone even as the color faded away.
