Fixed Wifi Problems
Solves signal problem in my house. Using it as an access point for 1/3 of my house. Easy set up. Provides great coverage and much more stable signal.I have a 1980s brick ranch home that's 90' long with sand finish plaster skim coat finish on my walls; the type of construction just kills signals. I was lucky to get a -75 to -85 signal in my office from my hub 40' away; now I'm at -41 and speed is much better too. Even worse in my wife's office at the other end of the house in the room over garage. By dropping access points at both ends, now everything runs much smoother and Ring cameras work much better.

Flexible, Reliable, and Seriously Underrated
This little beast supports four modes out of the box:Access Point Mode – turn wired into wireless ✔️Range Extender Mode – repeat an existing signal ✔️Client Mode – convert Ethernet-only devices (like a printer or old PC) into Wi-Fi clients ✔️Multi-SSID Mode – create segmented guest networks with VLANs ✔️I ran this in both Access Point and Extender modes in a tricky layout (concrete walls, multi-floor), and it pushed out clean dual-band signal without any noticeable lag or packet loss. Plus, MU-MIMO and beamforming help direct the signal where it matters—great for multi-device households or streaming-heavy setups. What I Like:Dual-band speeds (867 Mbps on 5GHz + 300 Mbps on 2.4GHz)—solid for most streaming and gamingGigabit Ethernet port = no bottleneck on backhaul or client modePassive PoE support—clean mounting, especially if you're running it up a wall or ceilingFour fixed antennas deliver real coverage, not just marketing fluffPro Tips:Pair with a modern router for max benefit—don't bottleneck this thing with an old base stationUse a dedicated SSID in AP mode for clean handoff between routersIn Range Extender mode, place it midway between router and dead zone for best balance of signal vs. speedWhat Could Be Better:Web interface is solid but not quite as slick as newer TP-Link Omada gearFixed antennas = solid signal but less customization of directionNo mesh functionality—if you want seamless handoff, go Deco insteadTL;DR:The TP-Link TL-WA1201 is a super versatile, cost-effective, and stable Wi-Fi extender/access point. Whether you’re bridging old gear, extending signal to a dead zone, or segmenting networks with VLANs—it handles it all quietly and efficiently. No dropped Zoom calls. No gaming lag. Just clean, customizable Wi-Fi wherever you need it.

good fit, easy setup
an excellent appliance, when set up as a range extender it's mimicking the base router so all clients end up on the same LAN, and that's important because all local sharing happens over a single subnet.setup is a breeze, easiest yet of any range extenders I've usedNOW, this one I bought NEW, the refurb one that I got from amazon resell 2 days before was a dud, even though marked as 'like new', it was defective, could not be set up, I wasted a couple hours trying to 'fix' it, but I ended up returning it for credit. So, buy NEW.

Don't use VLAN with DHCP. Good once set up.
I’m currently using three of these access points configured in multi-SSID mode with VLANs 1, 2, and 3. Once properly set up, they provide a stable and consistent connection without issues. When connected to a trunk port, the AP may randomly assign itself an IP from one of the available VLANs (e.g., mine once pulled an IP from VLAN 2). To avoid this, manually set a static IP instead of relying on DHCP.

Great connection
This works better than I could have imagined. Helps keep WiFi steady in farther rooms! It’s not too big and fits perfectly. It was pretty easy to use and set up as well!

Works well
I added 2 of these to my home wifi and between the two, I have working wifi in all the outbuildings on my 5 acre property

So perfect I wish it was sold in other countries
This access point is so good but I feel it is underappreciated. Not enough people buying it so TP link only sell it in big market like USA. Not available at all in Canada and I had to pay Amazon import fees to get it. Please sell directly in Canada, I would buy another one or two. In Canada TP link only sell the enterprise grade EAP225 model which doesn't have its own power brick or a power jack, which is useless to me as a residential consumer trying to use it in client mode.I have smart TVs with bad connection because they are far away from the WIFI router in the house. The client mode of this access point perfectly solve the problem. and I can set this AP to receive in 5GHz only to free up the 2.4GHz channel. If one day I wire up the house with Ethernet this unit can be reconfigured to access point mode to give greater WIFI coverage. I love the versatility!Price is reasonable for the multiple modes it provides.

Dead on Arrival
Bought this a couple months in advance as a Christmas present. Opened it up this morning to configure it and it was dead as a door nail. Got in touch with TP-LINK support who agreed and told me the RMA team would contact me in a day to discuss the "procedure" required to initiate a return/replacement process that would take about 5 business days ( read more than a week ). Not much solace in that policy on December 22nd.How does an access point leave TP-LINK's factory when it won't even power on? I also wonder whether the replacement will work ( if/when if finally shows up ), and how well or how long it might last if it does.It seems to me TP-LINK could have instructed Amazon to ship a replacement out today to rescue Christmas morning gift giving, but in any case, it was a mistake to buy this brand.
