I just made this dramatic necklace using Sterling silver, 14 karat gold, and a rare Hyalite Opal. It's 100% hand built, including the matching graduated chain links.... Every leaf was hand pierced from sheet silver, and the "vines" are in a variety of sizes of silver wire. I embellished both the chain and the pendant with "berries" of solid 14 karat yellow gold, & I added engraved veins on the leaves... The pendant section measures about 2 & 5/8ths inches top to bottom, 1 & 7/8ths inches across. The leafs & vines capture an unusually large Hyalite Opal. This unique gemstone is extremely rare, & is also known as "Satin Flash Opal" or "Petrified Ice". Internal botryoidal crystal structures disrupt incoming light, creating a rippling shimmer effect, filled with tiny rainbows! This freeform stone measures a whopping 23 X 44 mm. It's securely set in a custom-fitted Sterling Silver mounting, signed THEIS STERLING 14 K on the back. Continuing the organic forms, links of twisted vines transition the pendant to chain... there are four of these handwrought links on each side, graduated in size so they taper gracefully. The vines are connected by a sterling silver "8" links, all soldered closed, & each embellished with a dot of bright 14 karat yellow gold. More golden berries are scattered around the pendant's frame, creating great contrast & detail! This necklace is adjustable in length up to 18 & 1/2 inches, and a secure and easy to use lobster claw clasp completes the necklace. This is totally unique and one of a kind!
