Works great to join drapery rods
I needed to join 2 drapery rods and this worked perfectly. I use same color drapery rod paint to blend in the metal.

Not for joining tarp poles.
Winds pulled tarp and bent poles at these joints. Not strong.

My local brick and mortar store offers these only in (crappy cast) zinc variety. I needed these for structural reasons, and was not interested in the corrosion protection zinc has to offer.
