Easy to use, straightforward information
When I was trying to figure out why my baby was so fussy during and after eating, I consulted several prominent baby "bibles" and breastfeeding how-to books. Nothing addressed my problem, except to suggest that it could be a problem with rate of milk flow. It wasn't. Finally, I looked up my problem in this book, and it led me to the right diagnosis almost immediately - silent reflux, which can be really painful for babies. I credit the super-easy layout and organization - it's very intuitive and the language is lay-person oriented. I didn't need to have the "right" word to find what I was looking for, just a descriptive one. The other books had plenty of information on reflux, but did not lead me to it as the answer to our problem. I had to know what I was dealing with first. This book is also non-preachy and straightforward. Even when I wasn't looking for an answer to a problem, I would thumb through this book while nursing because it was interesting. Liked it so much, I gave this book to a friend who is expecting.

Great for Needing Answers NOW!
This is my favorite breastfeeding book. While the others I have are good, too, they have a lot of prose and spend pages on a topic. This one gives me the answers NOW.For example, I prepared to nurse my son one day and started leaking green milk! I was afraid to nurse him, unsure of whether he should drink it. Baby was crying by this point and I wanted the answer now. I looked in the other books and found no help. I looked in the index of this one and voila! Green milk is in there. One paragraph of reading told me that he could drink it and I was on my way. Crying stopped, crisis overcome. I love this book!It is arranged by topic, alphabetically. So you can look up colic under "c", green milk under "g", etc. And the topics are in plain english. Very nice. It is also cross-referenced, so if one short paragraph doesn't quite solve your problem, perhaps a related topic will. There are other books (must get "The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book...") that are nice to read in your third trimester, but this is the one to have in your bag when you go to the hospital and to keep by your rocker-glider when you get home. It really is worth every dime.

Wish I'd found this great resource SOONER!
I just received this book and cannot put it down! I think I've read almost the whole thing...and am only taking a break to write this review to let other breastfeeding moms know how wonderful it is!!! For all the moms out there who have had an easy, blissful experience breastfeeding, this book is probably useless to you...but for the rest of us who have battled (or will) with plugged ducts, overactive letdown, oversupply, thrush...this book at the very least lets you know you're not alone. I have spent the last 7 months learning everything I can about BFing. While LLL is also a good resource, I've found most of the women there WANTING to help but not knowing how to help with specific problems or combinations of problems. This guide is great because it's organized alphabetically by topic. I keep flipping from topic to topic & end up reading the entire chapter for each letter. This book can not take the place of a great lactation consultant but is definitely a must have for the problems that inevitably crop up at 1am when you have 8 hours to wait before you can call your dr or LC. Highly recommend!

good reference
This is not quite what I expected, but it is a good reference book to have. If you need basic information about breastfeeding, this is probably not the book for you because it is set up more like a dictionary - in alphabetical order by whatever problem you have (such as soreness, biting, etc). It is more like a book to have around when you need to look up something quickly. If you are a new mom needing basic information on how to start breastfeeding, get Dr. Jack Newman's book "The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers." It is very comprehensive and tells you everything you need to know from starting out with your newborn to nursing into the toddler years.

One of the best!
One of my all time favorite nursing "go-to" books! I really like the "Dear Abby" format, short bits of information was as much as my brain could handle in those early newborn baby days! Have a issue? Look it up - get the answer - go on. Perfect! I recommend this book to others ALL the time!

Practical and Reassuring
This is an excellent reference for new moms learning how to breastfeed. It is the only breastfeeding book I have found that really "tells you like it is" and gives real answers to real concerns. The advice is very practical, especially when it comes to juggling everything (pumping, going back to work, etc.). It was also a great reference when something weird came up and you could look it up and decide what to do next - if it was something to not worry about or to go see the doctor about. I had a challenging time with my first son because I had overactive letdown and had a real challenge getting nursing established. A few months later, the book helped me troubleshoot his dairy sensitivity (to the dairy I was eating) which the pediatrician then confirmed. Most of the other nursing books I have looked at seem to focus on how easy it should be and question whether or not you should even be considering going back to work and just make you feel guilty. I have wholeheartedly recommended it to all my new mommy friends embarking on breastfeeding.
