Mastering ArcGIS with Video Clips DVD-ROM 6th Edition

I used this textbook for my Intro GIS course in undergrad. I usually rent my textbooks, but could not find a place to rent this edition so I "had to" buy it. And I am SO glad that I did. This spiral-bound book feels more like a workbook than a real hard-bound textbook; it was therefore inviting and much less guilt-inducing to highlight text, dog-ear pages, etc. I went back and referred to this textbook for the two GIS courses I took after Intro. And if I hadn't lost my copy (sob-sob) I'd still love to refer to it at my current job. Seriously, even if you're not taking a proper GIS course, this is a strong, broad, all-encompassing resource if you're teaching yourself or if you're a professional who needs reminders/refreshers.The book exercises are incredibly thorough and guide you through every step and dialogue box in the goliath, sometimes intimidating program that is ArcGIS. I rarely had to ask my instructor for clarification. Later in the course, I found the exercises to be too hand-holdy, but that actually gave me a sense of pride knowing that I had learned enough to skip steps!

I needed this book for a class.The book makes ArcGIS very easy to learn and comes with a disk of maps to practice on as examples.The book is very thorough and provides lots of helpful picture examples.

This is the book that has a useful techniques and information for the beginner. It is easy to understand and the writer clarify each technique and method really well

Great book, easy to follow and read learned a lot and the CD that comes with the book has a lot of cool hands on drawing and map creation activities incorporated that follow with book.

Purchased for graduate studies. Came sealed, flawless, and with the DVD intact. Good tutorials, exercises and explanations. A book I'm going to beat-up and keep.

wow. really charging me $100.00 because the spiral was out a bit? you couldn't have spiraled it back in? It is not like it was actually broken off or anything. Very Crappy customer service

This book provides the reader with all of the information they will need to work with ArcGIS. I recommend it to scientist who already have expereince with GIS applications as well as people who are just beginning their educations on the matter.

This is not effective enough to be a standalone book, but too expensive to only be supplementary for a course. My professor's power-point lectures were a lot more effective in explaining the material in-depth, but this book had valuable exercises and problem sets that the class couldn't go without. Simply put, if this book were just the exercises at half price(~50), it would be a 5 star.

Great book, well worth the cost. The exercises are the perfect way to master your ArcGIS skills. I took several courses on ArcGIS in college, but this book has filled in the details and taught me even more.
