How do I use this? It has 2 hands. A red and a black . what is the purpose of the red hand

The red hand activates the black hand. They move together to the weight of the bag. When you remove the bag, the black stays at the bag’s weight and the red hand returns to zero.

Do you have to hold the luggage off the floor until the scale registers the weight? I can't hold much weight for any length of time

Yes. You must lift the luggage very briefly off the floor. The gauge will instantly measure and hold the reading.

How do you reset the black hands back to 0?

There's a knob in the front door the black hand. Turn it counter clockwise until it reaches zero.

What is the screw at the top of the scale for?

Unsure. It would appear to open the casing. I'm not fooling w it.
