Level 1 haircolor is always your darkest shade.

Q: Will the Ebony Brown look like dark brown or black?

It will make your hair black, I used it wanting a little darker than my natural brown shade wasn't expecting black. It makes your hair 2-3 shades darker than what is on the box, I wouldn't recommend this product to anybody. Goodluck.

Q: How much will this damage your hair?

I don't think it is any harsher on your hair than any other hair coloring product. The color stays longer and that is why I prefer it.
