cured a driver side passenger ticking sound
my 2004 FX4 5.4 3V has 245K miles, I bought it used last year just to take my boat to the lake so it's not my daily driver and wasn't so concerned with the mileage, also got it for pretty cheap since people don't like these triton engines, but I am mechanically inclined so wasn't too concerned if it needed a full timing job etc. Well we just took the truck on a 500 mile round trip and the engine was ticking pretty back on the drivers side, oil pressure is good, I have changed the oil twice in the 1 year of ownership so far and the transmission was whining when downshifting. I decided to change out the trans filter and replace 5 quarts trans fluid that the pan holds, that solved the whining issue then decided to see if the spark plugs I replaced when i bought the truck last year had come loose and was causing the tick. that was not the issue but I remembered I hadalready bought these solenoids and never installed them, I decided to replace just the driver side as that was still the original ford unit and the passenger side looked like it has been replaced fairly recently. I was surprised that when restarting the truck the ticking sound was GONE just from replacing the VCT solenoid so they are worth replacing before diving into a full cam phaser, timing job on these 5.4. I'm eventually going to do a full timing job, but not in a rush to do so now!

Kit comes complete, and works perfect, all you need is time and tools....lol
Well after reading some reviews stating the products failed and they had to replace with Ford produce I was to say the least a bit apprehensive about purchasing this kit, not to mention the time and effort to install. I had a certified mechanic counsel me and he said hell we buy our phasers from NAPA and besides your supplier description says lifetime warranty, go for it. Well I finished the install a couple days ago, took me four days, two to tear down and two to rebuild and I could not be more happier with the results. I did not realize how much noise my engine made and hell does it run a lot smoother. The only thing this kit should include is the VVT solenoids, it was my mechanic friend who told me to put new ones in since I was this far. I will tell you, for a part time backyard mechanic I was not looking forward to doing this repair but I had to because who can afford mechanic rates. All I can say is go slow and have a good friend help the extra set of eyes is always a good thing. I found a Youtuber who has a great series on the process his channel is called FordTechMakuloco and if you are thinking of doing this job yourself these videos are a must. Well I have ranted enough about how good this product is, how big the job is and about how my truck now runs like new.

The alternative part!
It fit my 2005 ford f150 truck with 5.4 triton engine. I knew when my truck started missing very bad that what was the problem, having experienced it twice before with same truck in 5 years. This time they where metal sounds coming from engine. The bottom side retaining ring and washer fell into engine. I can only hope they made there way to the oil pan.. The part arrived 2 days earlier than expected and installed very easy. Got the truck running like before, actually better..The reason for 4 stars is the screw is not threaded in the flange part that holds it in place.. So You Have To Be Very Careful About Not Dropping it down in the motor.Very happy with purchase. I hope the parts will stay together for years to come..
