St James of London Sandalwood and Bergamot Shave Cream Jar, 150 ml

Soap is not that complicated a substance; however, not all shaving soaps and creams are equal by any measure and, since no two faces are exactly alike in terms of age, skin tone, complexion, beard growth, etc., various brands have their champions and their detractors. Taylor of Old Bond Street, for example. I've used several of their shaving creams over the years and never liked the shave. Ditto for Trumper. Yet both have a huge following, and deservedly so. They're just not for me. St. James of Bond Street is. The fragrance is remarkable. I don't smell much sandalwood, if any, but it doesn't matter. This is a truly plush, wonderful fragrance. The cream itself is very easy to apply. A little dab'll do ya. I dipped my brush and got just a bit of cream on the tip and found it made a really slick lather with a lot of cushion. The shave was baby butt smooth. This is, in my view, as good as XPEC, which is arguably the best shaving cream made (though it's much denser and harder than this and seems more like a soap). I don't know that it knocks XPEC out of contention, at 5.7 ounces for $25 plus shipping (XPEC gives you nearly 9 ounces for $65 and has other merits), but it has the fabled slickness of XPEC and great cushion and wow, that scent is wonderful. The post shave feel is good, too. I'm not picky about packaging but for those who are, they've really done a first class job at St. James. Beautiful glass jar which comes in a beautifully designed box, the interior of which is a bright red paisley pattern rather than just plain cardboard. P.S. I'm not a paid reviewer or a shill, just one happy shaver. And Tod at Silvertip was a pleasure to deal with. He sent me samples in a very nice velvet drawstring bag. This has everything I could want in a shaving cream and is a true pleasure to use. Five big stars.

The first jar I received the cream was runny like milk. I have used this product before and knew that was wrong. Amazon replaced it with another jar and this time it was fine but the lid was dented so I swapped the lids as it is to be a present. At $9 it was a bargain it is a very good shave cream with excellent performance and should last a long time.

Smells amazing, lasts on your skin and smooth as butter. The scent is wonderful and not super manly (woman reviewing here) which is great. Feels like lotion and lasts through the whole shave. 10/10 do recommend
