Q: What is the dimension from mounting surface to back of rod tubes?

Approximately 1.75 inches Back of tube to surface flange is mounted to.

Q: What is the rod opening size? Will it hold 4 rods with 330 Penn Reels. It looks like narrow seperation

rod opening size is over 1 3/4 in. holds my largest rods with penn 4/0s on them. hole center to hole center is 5 1/2 in.

Q: Would it hold up to trolling a medium heavy rod (20# line) ?

It may, however, I do not recommend that you use this as to hold a medium heavy rod while trolling with the rod unless your drag is loose. This holder should probably only be used to "hold" a rod without the line being in the water. Due to the vertical mounting holes being close together, and the way the rod holders are attached to the horizontal bar, the leverage from a hooked fish would exert a lot of torque where the holder is attached to the boat and on the area where the rod holder is attached to the horizontal bar.

Q: Would I be able to mount this on the front bumper of my jeep?

Yes, I did this on my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock 2016 with the metal bumper and it worked out super well. I will try to post some photos. I've left it on for over a year and it's holding up great. I agree with others, I probably wouldn't drive too far with the poles in there, but it definitely works around Martha's Vineyard/Chappaquiddick where I use it to hold surfcasting rods and when fishing off the beach I leave the poles in there as I'm pretty confident no fish (or shark) is going to pull this thing off my Jeep!
