This guide was such a help on our recent road trip to South Dakota. Everything you need to know is in this guide including restaurants and their price points at each attraction.

This is a comprehensive guide to the national parks around Rapid City. It includes coverage of interesting towns nearby, such as Sturgis and Deadwood, and also in northeastern Wyoming. The emphasis is on cultural and historical sites in the region, with secondary focus on outdoor activity. Don't buy the book expecting detailed coverage of specific hikes, trails, or other outdoor activities. They are mentioned, but not covered in detail. This is very much a typical on-the-beaten-path tourist guide.Population density in this part of the country is tiny, even by American standards, so dining and lodging options are dominated by large national chains. The guide notes exceptional alternatives to these.Considering the location, expect "Wild West", native-American, and geological themes to predominate. Things are very much in that spirit here, and those are the themes reinforced by the guide's recommendations. One thing to keep in mind is that the term "Black Hills" refers to the mountainous region in and around (mostly southwest of) Rapid City, while "Badlands" refers to the national park by that name, to the southeast. Sometimes those terms are easy to confuse. This guide will direct you.

I LIKE THE BOOK, BUT WAS DAMAGED WHEN RECEIVED. AMAZON WILL REPLACE IT, BUT NOW I HAVE TO GO TO KOHLS TO RETURN THE ORIGINAL ONE. I CALLED AMAZON AND THEY SAID THAT IS THEIR POLICY.
