While it seems strange that a new Marshall recruit could accomplish so much, Johnstone did provide numerous examples of mistakes he made along the way. That kind of made this an enjoyable read with hopes that Tanner would succeed.

I have read almost every book that Johnston have written. I will enjoy this Series as much as the Mountains Man with Smoke. So far I like what I have read of Will Tanner. To say I like this book is a under statement. I this P.Gates the same as with Smoke? Thank you for writing such wonderful books. You uncle would be so proud of you. Keep up the goog work.

William has done a very good job of bringing this book to life. It's full of action, with a little romance thrown in.

I love all of Zane Grey and had a lot fun reading all of his books growing up. I think all of Wm. W. Johnstone are wonderful and SO much FUN. I had so much reading Western Books in over 50+ years !!!!!! Thank You.. Joyce Lee

I liked Will Tanner as a person. And as a US Marshall he was honest and stuck to his convictions. I would recommend this book to anyone. But if you like westerns you'll love Will Tanner, US Deputy Marshall.

Good story line. Excellent author who knows how to hold your I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Johnstones books.

Well.. Might be something here for a series. A little uneven in parts. The time on the trail hunting and being hunted was repetitive. But... It did pick up again. Don't tie him down in town. Get him on the road...

This is the first of a new series and it leaves one looking forward to the next book. A job well done.

slow story line stuck on one theme could have been more interesting got boring towards the end.

This is a great start to a new western series. It's well written and filled with action.Will Tanner saves the life of a U S Marshal and before he knows it he, himself is wearing a badge chasing down a gang of outlaws in the territories.If you are familiar with a particular author's writing style then you should be able to pick who wrote this one.I certainly look forward to the rest of the series if the first book is any indication of what is to come.I've read first-up books before and they have long, drawn-out introductions and although this one does have one it isn't long before the real work begins.Give it a try.
