As long as the distressed is dry apply in thin coats.

Q: can you gloss up satin finish paint to make it look like semi gloss on drywall already painted ?

Ive never tried this on walls but try a small sample in an area not visible to viewers to see if it will take.

Water based poly always has less VOCs than oil based. Personally never had an issue when I used water based in the basement. Crack open windows and run a fan if you have to
