Good text, bad images
The text is useful for understanding the basic tenets of Japanese painting, but of little practical usefulness for painters. The many references to the images in the book are pretty much pointless, because they are so small and of low print quality. Also, except for the cover, there is no colour used in this book (I have the pocket book edition). To really appreciate this book one needs to have access to original Japanese paintings or good replicas.

It is a good book and this is the book that we use in my Japanese painting class. With this book we connect and discuss Japanese painting and its philosophy.

Pretty horrible
If this is an exact copy then the original must have been in really bad shape. Nice cover the rest is very poor quality - the contents are a bad photocopy of a real book from the Kansas City library and looks like some one spent the afternoon xeroxing. The images of prints are poor to useless - bad copy machine black and white images - no greyscale.Even the text is somewhat fuzzy.

good
Good book with full illustrations unlike the other versions offered on Amazon. recommended reading for Japanese art lovers and aspiring painters.

No pictures
There is much lost from this book without the images, and I was sorely disappointed to discover they were missing. I can garner some information from the text, so all is not lost, but if you are looking for art, look elsewhere.
