I wanted to love this seat. I ordered several seats, and this one was extremely well made and elegant looking. However, the seat has a spring suspension which makes it very heavy, and also causes the seat to sit much higher than it otherwise would. Both factors tend to destabilize the bike. The heaviness also made it extremely difficult to lift on and off the bike rack. It's not as if the bike becomes uniformly heavy - there's an extremely heavy part (the seat) well behind the rear wheel attachment. See photos for how much lower the Thule Yepp sits than this one. The Thule is also considerably lighter.What I liked:1.) Very well made with nice materials2.) Elegant looking3.) Recline, which can be adjusted easily while you are still on the bike4.) Suspension means a comfortable ride for babyWhat I didn't like:1.) Very heavy - by far the heaviest of the seats I looked at2.) Suspension raises the CG of baby + seatIf you're very comfortable on a bike and not worried about the destabilizing effect or a few pounds of extra weight, this is the best seat out there, in my opinion. But for me, I am very worried about falling with the baby on her seat, so it wasn't the right choice.Hamax: I would love to see a seat without the suspension, which would make it both lighter, and lower. It wouldn't matter to me if it was cheaper if it was the same quality as this seat.Seats I looked at in rank order:1.) Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi Rack Mount Child Bike Seat - Expensive and not as well made as the Hamax, but lower and lighter2.) Hamax Caress Rack Mount3.) I don't think any frame mount would work with my bike.In terms of a rack, I mounted this on the Topeak Babyseat II Disc Mount Rack , Black.

I went with this model for the modern design and quality. I would have preferred the frame mount for easy removal when I drop my child at school. I was hoping to leave it in the class until I come back for pick up. However, my Schwinn mountain bike wouldn't accommodate it. The rack mount would take to many turns to get it off and back on. Not worth the trouble. It is light enough it shouldn't be an issue. We purchased a 110lbs rack, but mind the width as it has a limit. The seat will uncrank to widen for most racks. The rack was harder to put on then the seat. The seat came with the spring attachment already connected so that was nice. I need to get a double kickstand so it stands up straight. If my child was smaller, she is 2.5 years, then I would have purchased the observer, but I would have needed a new bike since it doesn't work with my bike. Not enough length in the neck of the handle bars. I was hoping to spend $200, but having to buy the rack put me at $250 along with the kickstand. I also got a Lazer helmet with a flat back for my child to aid in comfort. Speaking of comfort, there is absolutely no padding!!! It is just fabric paper! You must by some kind of seat and back cushion to soften the ride. Very uncomfortable even with the spring shocks. We did a test run and we need some time to get used to the weight on the back and my childs fear of the new experience. I would recommend a front handle bar mount for smaller children under 2 for sheer joy of the experience, better weight balance and communication ability. This was my 2nd choice for my now larger toddler. It should hold up until she is ready for a bike of her own. But so far, I am loving thisfor our daily 4 mile street road commute. Glad I chose this over the other models. And I looked at them ALL! I watched every youtube review and listened to all the complaints. I even listened to the Dutch reviews I couldn't understand just in case they had more to share lol! I spent two weeks making my decision and analyzing my options based on my bikes requirements. Start with the bike first is my biggest advice. Measure and check how they are installed. My husband put it together for me. He commented not to bad to put together at all. Now where to find cushions for this thing...?? I almost went to a bike store but it all worked out for me in the end.

We've used this bike seat on two bike rides since we bought it a few weeks ago. My son hated the trailer so we did a lot of research to find what we felt was the best and safest seat on the market, and decided to purchase the Hamax Caress. The installation was simple to install on my road bike. I did it myself without needing any fancy tools. We opted for the rack install rather than bike frame. While it isn't something that can be removed quickly, if you have the "key" for unlocking the tightening screw, you could probably switch this from one bike to another in about five minutes. To me this is acceptable for switching on a long ride or trading the carrying duties here and there, but I wouldn't want to do this daily!As for the ride, my son LOVES it. He can see around him and be part of the ride as opposed to the trailer where he was confined and not very comfortable. The helmet indentation is great too. Our son is on the small side for being 17 months old and the seat is still a great fit for him, even though we have the harness tightened almost to the very end! That just means he'll be able to sit in it for a long time!The worst part is just getting used to the balance with having all that weight on the back, but that would be the case with any bike seat. And after a few dismounts, it's not too tricky! We'd definitely recommend this seat!

Well made and did the job! Safety is an important topic, before the fun begins. Make sure you have a sturdy bike rack.
