S.T. International Aquarium Surface Skimmer

I have a Tetra Whisper 40. Attached to the intake pipe easily. You can adjust the suction and flow. I have it so that it is just about wide open to keep the surface flow moving. It does sound like water going down a drain. However, it makes my water so beautiful, I forgive it. I would imagine that any surface skimmer has this noise. Comes with various adapters. Cleared up my oil slick like surface on my 20 gallon long in minutes! This is worth every penny and I would highly recommend if you have an oily/scum like surface on your tank. My water is so clear that when you look down on the tank you can’t even tell where the surface is unless you look at the water line because it’s that clear now. I have axolotls; this really helps!

For my purposes it works great with no strange modifications needed. I have a 30 gallon freshwater planted tank that I wanted to skim the surface of, and this works great with my "hang on back" type filter (Tetra Whisper Power Filter). Connected with no issue. You don't have to use the suction cup holder. It came with two additional rubber connectors; I used the "fat" one to connect it to my filter.You can see in the images that the clear piece is the floating skimmer - this skimmer auto-adjusts to the waters height. To adjust how much "skimming" it does, you need to adjust the pipe connection at the bottom of the U trap. There are three little slits for water intake there. Cover all of them and you get a powerful skim but at a cost; a noticeable "gurgling" sound which is what you typically hear at a fish store. I have one slit open and my skimmer runs silent.You'll know it's working when it's got a sort of air-bubble in the clear skimmer tube. That, and debris will start piling up at the skimmer edges. Be sure to clear it out occasionally.This is super petty but the only way this kit would be better is if the whole thing was black; the "clear" skimmer is pretty white and noticeable in my planted tank.

I like the design....however this is for filters with smaller sized pumps. Also another reviewer stated is worked great on his Aquaclear 110. Well let me clear this up. It does NOT fit the Aquaclear 110 at all! Is device comes with a 1/2" and a 3/4" adapter. The Aquaclear 110 intake stem is 1" diameter. So it's impossible to fit without going to hardware store for a PVC fitting for modification. But even so after all that once it's hooked up the Aquaclear pump is too strong. It leaves an air pocket at the top of the intake stem and dramatically reduces the flow of the filter which I'm sure isn't good for the pump. The diameter of the tubing of this device is 1/2" which cannot pull enough water through fast enough. Even with the extra openings on this device fully open it still cannot pull enough water through the 1/2" tubing to satisfy a high gph pump. This may work well for smaller filters. Overall disappointed.

Bought this as a surface skimmer attachment for my Aquatop CF400UV 4-Stage Canister Filter running on an 89 gallon fresh water aquarium. The Aquatop canister has a skimmer port on it's intake tubes but no skimmer attachment. I used the floater, the descending tube, and suction cup of this skimmer. The descending tube fits over the skimmer port of the Aquatop intake tube. Nice solution for $15 and takes little space in the aquarium. Within a few minutes the normal surface oils on the 850+square inch surface area of my aquarium was completely gone. Didn't have any issues with air getting sucked into the canister as the main branch of the canister's intake tube provided most of the intake water.

Set this up on a 10 gallon and it cleared the surface crystal clear in about a half hour. Was fairly easy to set up with a Aquean Quiet Flow 10. The exception is that one adapter is too small and the other does not fit snug, I had to use the suction cup to support the tube and hold it snuggly against the intake of the filter. Not a big problem once it is set up it stays in place. It's very apparent the this device greatly increases oxygen exchange. At the intake on mine the top of the tube looks like a tornado. Would give 5 stars if it were easier to adjust the intake.
