Such a cheerful tonic of a book
While the plot takes a little time to build up, with the arrival of Ole M. the Younger in Stockholm from Kenya, in search of his son Kevin, one can't stop laughing. Mad revenge being planned, with lots of hiccups, is a delicious theme.Flawlessly translated. As soon as I finished the book, I started all over again, this time at very slow speed. And promptly ordered another by the same author.

Entertaining but could have been a tad better
Title - Sweet Sweet Revenge LtdAuthor - Jonas JonassonGenre - HumorWhen I had first come across Jonas Jonasson's The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared, I absolutely fell in love with his writing style and the subtle humor that so easily gelled up with the world history and character's development. It wasn't much of a surprise when its sequel turned out to be equally entertaining and it didn't make me think twice when I got my hands on his latest one. Dived in immediately with a bit of high expectations and here is my take on whether it was a hit or a miss.Plot:Victor is a pretty shrewd man who not only tricked his ex wife into gaining all her property but also is answerable to Kevin, his illegitimate son whom he had abandoned in the jungles of Africa. After Kevin turns into a legal adult and returns back to Stockholm after running away from his Maasai father, he crosses path with Jenny and decides to take revenge on Victor. In comes the firm, Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd, run by Hugo who specialises in exacting revenge as a business and thus the plot thickens. My Take on the Book:As mentioned earlier, I had a good amount of expectations from this book. The author did deliver on quite a lot of expectations but there were its own shortcomings from this book. For starters, the plot though at best did try to be a streamlined was haphazard in quite a lot of places. Every new character were introduced from the start and was brought to a common point for the story to continue. The characters were pretty limited but they were not portrayed with much shade as they should have been. What though did put me off at times was the convenience in the plot points that seemed too hard to miss. Whenever the characters were in a fix, the convenient route was apparently taken for their exit and it did not sit well. Kevin and Jenny were the only ones who were highlighted throughout the book and they did stand out well. Victor, the nemesis unfortunately felt rushed up in a lot of places and his character could have been given a bit more shade to add fun to him. What lifts the book though is the humor that has been strewn throughout. The best humor came out of most unexpected places and that turned out to be quite a charm for the book. Pick it up if you are a fan of the author or just need a light-hearted book that does not need much to dwell upon.My Ratings - 🌟🌟🌟💫(3.5 out of 5 stars)

Outlandishly wild and phenomenally fabulous. Add it to your Best Anytime Reads.
“Revenge as a concept. Revenge as a business idea.Hugo was a wizard at packaging marmalade, crisps and lottery tickets better than they deserved. If you could pitch nonsense, you could probably do the same with revenge.”The lives of two men – Ole Mbatian and Victor – living over ten thousand kilometers apart, one in a valley in Maasai Mara and the other in a suburb in Stockholm, get entwined in the strangest way possible. And this life changing connection comes about through the profit seeking pursuits of Hugo Hamlin who just happens to be in the business of extracting revenge on his clients’ behalf. One the surface, you might think there isn’t any plot to this novel; just a whole lot of improbable events happening one after the other. However, it is with his persuasive storytelling that the author helps you connect the dots to see the big picture.I love the whacky characters and the absurdity of the situations they find themselves in. It wouldn’t do to even try making sense of what is happening. Instead, one has to simply go with the flow in the belief that all of it, as ludicrous as it sounds, is happening with real people, in an extraordinarily imaginative world of fiction. The author’s genius creativity in pulling this together shows in his use of satire and absolute deadpan humour which may not necessarily make you roll with laughter but is effectively entertaining.I always expect something outrageous from Jonas Jonasson and once again he exceeds my expectations. Outrageously wild and phenomenally fabulous, this is as outlandish as it gets. Not really that impressed, could have been better
I’ve had difficulties while writing a review before but this time, I am not sure where to begin. Alright, let me give it a try. I remember mum sharing a brief about William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, I found it so logically hilarious. When I saw Jonas Jonasson’s Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd is up for review, I didn’t a single minute and requested for it knowing how well the writer is. With everyone rooting about his previous books, I grabbed the opportunity. Clearly, didn’t go well. This book gives the vibe of the whole comedy of errors concept in a way. The book starts with Victor Alderheim’s greed and Hugo’s creative skills, Jenney being the only heir of a prominent art gallery, Kevin being Victor’s abandoned son, followed by Ole Mbatian, a Maasai medicine man who adopts Kevin. The whole concept of having a company that helps people seek revenge be it right or wrong was fascinating. The initial few chapters were rather interesting, especially when the story started unfolding itself. The way the story interweaved within itself was good, but the pace of the book made me not want to read it. The complete first half of the book was extremely slow, by the time I somehow reached the last bit, I had to practically force myself to finish it.The book was interesting, to be honest, but that was it! I lost interest by the time I reached mid-way. I expected something, got something else. Could have been so much better for sure. Now I am a bit doubtful, should pick his other books or not.Decisions, decisions!

Great winter read!
This was our book club's January book. It took about 50 pages for me to get into it... characters and settings were multiple. Laughed out loud many times. Dark humor... kind of like Fargo.

Very funny comedy set in Sweden
I thought this book was uproariously funny and enjoyed its laugh-out-loud moments. However, it was longer than it needed to be. An added bonus was learning about some leading artists that were unknown to me. The comedy connects some diverse characters in a surprising way. The story is set mainly in Sweden. The despicable, vile Victor owns an art gallery that should have belonged to his mild, younger wife, Jenny. He ignored her except when tricking her out of her inheritance and then promptly divorced her. Like Hitler, Victor abhorred modern art from the time of the Impressionists and only concentrated on realistic paintings in his gallery. His ultra-conservative right-wing views on art, race, politics, etc., align with those of Hitler. He left his only son, Kevin, in the wilds of Africa to be eaten by lions. Later, Jenny and Kevin meet by chance in Stockholm. Their mutual hatred of Victor leads to a romance and a goal of revenge. There is Hugo, who had a successful career in advertising. He left this position to establish a less competent Revenge business. Joining them is a Maasai medicine man who comes to Sweden knowing nothing about the outside world or of modern conveniences banned in his settlement. He arrives in Stockholm in the winter clad in his traditional garb and carrying tribal weapons. Misunderstandings led him into all sorts of trouble and amusing situations. Paintings by the deceased artist, Irma Stern, play a significant role in this revenge plot. I did not expect that I would not only be entertained but that this book would inform me. I had not known that Irma Stern was an actual painter of now valuable works of art. Thanks to Google, I was able to view her paintings on the internet. I was also introduced to artists whose work was destroyed mainly by Hitler's contempt towards Impressionism but was able to view a few paintings that remained. Getting even with Victor includes a goat, bags of flour, and sex toys left in his home, plus the appearance that he is forging Stern's paintings. This revenge ruins Victor's reputation, but he can live with that humiliation as he has a scheme to add to his fortune through more trickery. A hilarious, overly long, madcap comedy with unlikely connections and subplots. Thanks to the internet, I could view and learn about some works of art previously unknown to me.

4.5 Sterne.
