Beautiful Book for the Jane Austen Fan
Just the most beautiful rendition of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen that I've seen. I first got one as a gift for the Austen lover in my family, and after seeing it, had to get one for myself. It's just beautiful, and the unique artwork and inserts through the book make it so much fun. Highly recommend, and there are other classic books that have been given the same treatment, so take a look. I'm certainly happy with this purchase.

This is a beautiful book and the little illustrations inside are so nice. I have the book sitting on my end table in a bedroom.

A lovely gift edition of the classic
The opening chapter of Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorite in all of Austen. I find her wit here to be so sharp. The reduction of expectations for the Dashwood family as they lose their property and much of their financial security, because of primogeniture, is described in a way that is actually quite scathing and revelatory of the estate’s new female doyenne. There is much to delight in as readers observe Elinor and Marianne interact with each other and those around them. Suffice it to say, that each embodies one of the titular traits. A rereading of this novel is always welcome to me.If you have not read S and S, I recommend it most highly. I especially want to draw you attention to this absolutely gorgeous edition of the book. It is surely true that there are many, many less expensive versions of the novel. That said, this enchantingly illustrated one will be adored by true Austen aficionados. The flowers throughout are just lovely. Consider making this one a gift for someone you know…maybe even yourself. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Not the same as the type of book adaptation done by Barbara Heller (such as of Pride and Prejudice)
This book is a nice quality version of the classic Jane Austen novel, with lovely illustrations. However, I made the mistake of buying this after I had bought the lovely Pride and Prejudice book that has "handwritten" letters by Barbara Heller with the impression that it was the same kind of adaptation. While the illustrations in this book are lovely, it is nowhere the same experience as the Barbara Heller books. The items which are inserted seem only barely related to the book dialogue and they are not inserted into envelopes but instead are just loose inside the book. So there is a constant annoyance of them falling out and having to keep track of where they should be inserted back in. Further and probably most annoying of all, the letters (which are very few) are NOT in handwriting but instead in a terrible computer font that they must believe is going to pass as handwriting. There are barely any letters to begin with, so it would have taken very little additional trouble to have the letters actually in handwriting in my opinion. Instead, it is just an annoyance as the font is actually strange for some words, and I even had to just go back to the book to read a couple of words. At that point, I just decided to read the book instead. You absolutely lose the whole immersive feeling that you get from the Barbara Heller editions. If you already have Sense and Sensibility I would not recommend you spend your money on this. However, if you don't already have it and are looking for a copy, then this is a nice hardcopy version with lovely illustrations and a nice quality ribbon bookmark. But do not buy it for the insertions.

magical illustrations accompany Austen's wonderful story
“It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.”Sense and Sensibility is a joyous classic. There are certainly truly detestable characters (looking at Willoughby, Lucy Steele, and John and Fanny Dashwood) but the story itself is wonderful to read. I’ve spent many hours happily re-reading (or listening) to this lovely Jane Austen title. I don’t know how to convey just how much Marjolein Bastin’s illustrations add even more gloriousness to this well-loved classic. Her artwork is stunning and this would make a beautiful addition to any well tended home library.“If a book is well written, I always find it too short.”Thanks to Andrew McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. Opinions shared are influenced by nothing other than my reading experience.

Beautifully illustrated of this classic novel
I am delighted with this edition of Sense & Sensibility. It has been published on quality paper, the font is elegant and easy to read, and the illustrations by Marjolein Bastin are a joy, as are the inserts of postcards and even family tree. However ... one insert is a letter contained within an envelope with a stamp. The first stamp in the UK, the Penny Black, wasn't issued until 1840, and Miss Austen's book was published in 1811. In Miss Austen's day, the recipient paid for the postage and so, knowing that perhaps your cousin, your aunt, or your friend to whom you were writing would be paying on receipt, based on size/weight of the letter, thus you attempted to make it as light and as small as possible. Thus you wrote not just across the page as we do today, but you turned the page and wrote across what you had already written! Yes, it made reading your messages difficult, but this is what happened. Sometimes, an envelope wasn't used. The letter was then folded and sealing wax used to seal it together. All that was required for this modern edition was for the insert envelope not to have had a stamp, simple as that. But other than that, a really beautiful, competitively priced edition of this classic novel. I love it. Had the envelope not had a stamp, then I am sure I'd have given this gorgeous book a 5 star rating.
