John Alcorn: Evolution by Design

In-depth view of the incredible talent of John Alcorn. I’m very happy that this book is available, so that new generations of designers can have the opportunity to be influenced by this prolific and insightful artist. What a treat to own this book.

I purchased this book as an early Christmas present, for myself.It's is a beautiful tribute to a remarkable artist.I arrived here in aroundabout way.Back in the early 2000's there was a commercialfor an investment company set to the tune of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidathat featured all of these psychedelic flowers sprouting up.This sparkeda memory in me, I'd seen flowers like that before, but where? Thenit came to me, Eve Cigarettes.I then went searching the web for anyinfo on the artist behind the 1970s advertising campaign and I foundJohn Alcorn's gorgeous art.If anyone ever asked me who my favoriteartist was, hands down, I would answer, John Alcorn.I make stuff, it'sfar from professional, but John Alcorn's art has been a big inspiration onme.Over the years I've purchased a few of the books John Alcorn illustrated,but this book is just the icing on the cake, it couldn't be more perfect!

L'illustratore è notissimo da noi avendo lavorato molto per l'editoria italiana. E' un classicissimo che è entrato nell'immaginario di tutti gli amanti della grafica e dell'illustrazione. Il libro è meravigliosamente impaginato con molte illustrazioni al vivo e tutte le immagini anche quelle piccole sono godibilissime grazie all'incisività di questo grandissimo. Dell'impaginato che sfiora la perfezione, non mi sono piaciute le note colorate in cyan di selezione, capisco che un colore composto avrebbe avuto un fuoriregistro col carattere piccolo però a me il cyan non ci sta secondo me. Non è Andy Warhol...Peccato poi per la copertina, e non è poco, che sembra una raccolta di stencil e non un libro su un artista che sapeva creare copertine potenti, una lezione non imparata. Probabilmente, esito di qualche compromesso, penso a quei rilievi in copertina belli quanto inutili. Di grande finezza la scelta della carta opaca ma riduce la potenza impattante delle immagini. De gustibus qui.Da avere assolutamente.

Libro prezioso e molto curato con un'antologia di lavori uno meglio dell'altro: un libro da avere se appassionati di graphic design e illustrazione.

Non c'é stato verso di fermare il secondo ordine, fatto per errore, anche se abbiamo telefonato subito. Questa mancanza di elasticità scoraggia nuovi ordini. Cordialmente, Maria Grazia
