another good read
As usual Ellis keeps you spellbound and guessing until the very end! I also enjoy his descriptions of the countryside

Great story telling
A modern day Agatha Christie. Fun filled suspense. I will now read more as this was my first J. R. Ellis novel.

Excellent Story
This is by far the best story so far in the series. I still think there is some unnecessary language and allusions to sex. Even with that, this was an enjoyable read.

Another good mystery.
The plots are a good mystery and keep me guessing pretty much through most of the story, which is a big plus. I like the good relationship Oldroyd has with his super. I'm not too fond of the relationships where the protagonist and his immediate boss is a jerk. It gets old real quick. I again enjoyed listening to the audio as I read along and plan to do it for future books in the series, despite some of the character voices sounding very similar. One disappointing trend I'm beginning to see in the series though is the author making his worldview known. Unless an author is marketing their book towards a particular audience, I'm one who prefers mysteries where the author isn't repeatedly making their worldview clear, regardless of what it may be. It takes away from the pure entertainment for one who may have an opposing worldview.Despite my thoughts on the world view spin, I'll still plan to read 'A Yorkshire Murder Mystery' series. I know what to expect now, but it does take away from my overall entertainment.

Not disappointing
I enjoyed this entry in the series. I plan to continue the series - hoping that there is not too much"sameness" as it progresses. I find the environments still especially engaging.

Good story, only if...
It is a great story andthe ending, though a bit theatrical, but good.It supposed to be a great mytery story only if the Author can avoid drifting offcourse with complete unnecessary back stories of the detectives. They have no relevance to the mystery and absolute distraction. I had to keep turning pages after pages of unnecessary melodrama of the personal lives of the detectives. A 5 star story ruined by the author to become a 3 or 4 star story line. Please stop distractions.

Mystery with a little magic
The Murder at Redmire Hall is very entertaining and keeps you guessing until the end. There are suspects a plenty, many with deliciously scandalous motives. Oldroyd is certainly at his peak in this challenging mystery. Although I enjoyed the climatic ending, I felt it was uncharacteristic for Oldroyd. I was also glad to see forward movement in his personal life.

Complex Storyline!
At the end, I realized how many clues Iβd missed or discounted. This book was exceptionally fun to read and the family relationship were entwined to perfection. From the dowager who really disliked her son to the spoiled daughter who hated waiting for an inheritance that was being frittered away, almost everyone had a reason for murder. My favorite of the series so far; I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the surroundings and how the characters were shaped into whole people with flaws and sometimes strengths.

An enjoyable read π
This was an enjoyable read, but very easy to deduce who was doing the killing. Whilst reading the book the storyline seemed very very familiar......no idea why. However, as I've been keeping a record since 2017 of all the books that I've read, and this book was published in 2018, I've definitely not read this book previously. Has the author published published this prior to 2018 under a different title/different author name? I know that authors sometimes do this......... If not, then perhaps I'm reading too many books in this genre lol

Entertaining
This is the 3rd book I have read by J.R Ellis and my least favourite, for me it was like Hercule Poirot meets Jonathan Creek in Midsommer, and I hardly recognised Oldroyd, on saying that I still read the book in 2 sittings and I didn't guess the murderer, but the description of how they created the locked room is still a bit of a mystery, I think I need to read that part again. I would certainly read any more books that Mr Ellis writes, he very slightly leaves a clifhanger with a character making the reader wonder 'What happens next'

A true who dun it
In a well hidden plot , O which would have Aldrroyd solved the mystery and revealed the plot in a classic mystery style which would have done justice to Miss Marple or even Sherlock Holmes himself , with a classic reveal at the end.

Not as good as the first two books in this series.
DCI Jim Oldroyd is invited to a magic show at a stately home, what could possibly go wrong? Just like the last book in this Yorkshire Murder Mystery series, DCI Jim Oldroyd is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is witness to yet another murder! The Murder at Redmire Hall is the third book in this series but I believe it can be read as a standalone. Characters continue from the earlier novels and their private and professional lives rumble along. This is another cosy mystery but I did not enjoy it as much as the first two books. I did not find the plot as clever and the story made everyone who attended the magic show a credible suspect. Everyone was painted in a bad light, so the reader does not develop an empathy for any character. It did not help that the audience for this magic show were an arrogant bunch of friends and family, commonly known as the idle rich. Another frustration was the unrealistic scene towards the end when DCI Jim Oldroyd summoned all the audience who attended the magic show back to the crime scene and talked to everyone en masse in order to reveal who killed the victim. This is NOT police procedure but a tiresome distraction done in the Agatha Christie/Hercule Poirot/Cluedo style.I found The Murder at Redmire Hall to be an OKAY 3 star read, nice to have a book on the go but I was yawning most of the way through as anybody could have been the killer and this was NOT a gripping read. I was put on the spot by a new driver at work who asked what I was reading, I told him in an instant the title, author and that I would NOT recommend it to him!
