Beautifully designed patterns w/expert, easy to follow, detailed instructions
Love this book & patterns. The author makes it easy to fit to your dog by having detailed measurements by breed & tailoring his patterns to their shapes (ie, small dog w/long body, or small dog/large chest). The clothes themselves are customizable & he gives detailed directions on how to adjust the pattern. The clothes themselves are designed with quality in mind, to be easily & sturdily constructed. You’re even given helpful hints, tips & notions needed for each design, each size.Don’t forget to manually add the seam allowance to the pattern pieces.I’ve already made several of the designs for my Pom and because of her Alopecia I had to make some minor adjustments to the pattern pieces but they look great and protect her now bare torso perfectly. The outfits are so cute, she gets compliments wherever we go. There are so many variations to be made from these designs she’ll have quite a wardrobe!

Good book, but layout of paper patterns leaves a lot to be desired.
It is such a shame that this wonderful book took such a hideous approach to providing the patterns. Publisher would have been better off providing a digital link with layers for each different pattern/size then the mish-mosh of printed patterns provided at the end of the book. They printed patterns on top of patterns and it makes it a frustrating experience trying to find the pattern pieces you need. There is a pdf of the patterns online but that is only an even more frustrating experience of trying to piece together 8 1/2 x 11 pieces of paper which are not page numbered and have no indications on which pages should butt up against each and still have patterns printed on top of each other because the publisher once again did not choose to do a pdf with layers.

Great Instructions - Patterns have to be traced
I love to dress my little Coton de Tulear in t-shirts and coats. He needs the extra warmth in my well air-conditioned home and during the winter months (maybe I should have typed "weeks" since we live in Tampa Bay, Florida.) I'm an intermediate sewer with many garments under my belt (both knits and woven.) I would recommend this book to the advanced beginner who is eager to learn more advanced skills. The book has well-written instructions and nice pictures. The patterns are nested and pieces are printed over each other. They have to be traced and you have to add your own seam allowances. Another reviewer posted a picture. Before you purchase the book you should be aware of this. If you are familiar with Burda Magazine garment patterns, you might know how to trace this style of pattern using translucent pattern paper. I've done this many times with no problem. There are a lot of blog posts and videos you can reference before you try it that are Burda related, but the tips can be applied to the patterns in this book. If you buy the Kindle version you will download pdfs from a link provided and print in color on 8 1/2 by 11 or A4 and full size and tape the pages together if you can't print on large format paper at a copy shop. The paper back version pull-out pattern is printed in color on large format paper, so no taping. Ether way, you have to trace the patterns. I have both versions of the book. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 stars is that many will be put-off by the non-US style of patterns. They aren't like Simplicity or McCall's.

Can't read the patterns
The outfits are cute but it's IMPOSSIBLE to read cuz someone thought it was a good idea to put all the pattern pieces on the same 2 pieces of paper, front and back.

A really useful resource for confident sewers
I bought this book because I couldn't buy coats to fit my very non-standard shaped dog (huge chest on a very slight frame), and the key points for me were that a) it contains a variety of patterns in a good range of sizes, and b) it gives instructions for adapting patterns to fit the individual dog. For me, it's already proved a very cost-effective way of making a variety of coats for my own dog and others in my family, especially when compared with the price of paper patterns (which are very limited in availability and rarely include a decent range of sizes). However, I am a pretty experienced sewer, and I think that a beginner would struggle a bit with some aspects of the book: you have to trace the pattern you want from a bewildering array of pieces, all printed overlapping each other on both sides of two huge pieces of paper; it can be hard to locate the piece you want, and some are mislabelled; you have to add your own seam allowance to the pattern pieces after tracing; the sewing instructions aren't always very clear. While annoying at times, these weren't big problems for me as I am used to altering and adapting patterns, and the way the book is presented makes it ideal for this. For instance, for the green raincoat pictured, which was the first pattern I used, I shortened the length of the coat to better fit my dog and added a different kind of belt. I also lined it with fleece, which isn't included in the instructions. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and consider it good value, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is happy to put in a bit of extra effort for a really well-fitting end result.
