An attractive first thesarus
This is a charming book. It isn't organised like a conventional thesaurus. Instead each page has a different theme, with suggestions of synonyms and antonyms. There are also Dahl's neologisms, but it is clear which these are as they are written in blue.Beautifully brought to life with Quentin Blake's illustrations. It will need to be replaced with a standard thesaurus in due course, but it's good inspiration for the younger child.

Quirky Thesaurus for Children
This is a Fun book for children. It is certainly not a serious, conventional Thesaurus and not what I expected. The quality of the book is, as you would expect from Oxford, excellent. The graphics are fun too . It is filled with fun examples of how to use alternative; sometimes "off the wall" words which I think children will find funny. One thing is for sure - it certainly isn't boring!!!

Absolutely fantastic thesaurus
The best thesaurus I've come across! I would of absolutely loved this as a child. Kids who are eager to learn more would love it too!Fantastically illustrated and brilliantly laid out thesaurus for kids (Adults too!) By Roald Dahl."All the words you needs for magic, marvel and mischief!"Opening up, the book explains what a thesaurus is and what you do with it.This is written in such a fun way kids wouldn't be in a rush to get through! It's funny and it's attention grabbing, especially for an opening to a thesaurus!Next there is a double page spread out that shows you how to use the thesaurus with an illustrative diagram. They teach you what a section is, a category, sub-catergories, examples, related words, definitions, quotations, synonyms and finally they explain that words in blue are words Roald Dahl invented and used in his stories. The contents are inundated with subjects and sub-categories within them. From pages 12 to 61 you haveTHE WORLD OF HUMAN BEANSThis has 19 sub-categories.From all about chiddlers and all about bodies, to all about feelings, describing movements and describing smells and many more. From pages 64 to 109 you haveTHE NATURAL WORLDThis has 17 sub-categories. From describing landscape, plants and flowers and all about animals to all about the sea, the sky and outer space and all about colours and many more. From pages 112 to 141 you haveTHE MAGICAL WORLDThis has 10 sub-categories.From all about magic, extra usual creatures to describing size, all about dreams and giant langwitch and more. From pages 144 to 159 you haveTHE WORLD OF WORDSThis has 7 sub-categories.From all about language and all about writing to rhymes and rhyming words and global gobblefunk and more. Each subject can have the most odd, random or intriguing facts that you're dying to get through them all quickly! Each sub-category has many different explanations and uses for what they're talking about. They also use qoutes and parts from Roald Dahl's most famous books. Each page has wonderful illustrations, all of your favourite characters from stories and new ones. Each page is bright, creative, colourful and laid out very well into different sections so as not to overwhelm or overload the reader with information in one passage. There are pages inbetween that are pure creative illustrations.I think this thesaurus is more than worth the cost. I would 100% recommend this.So creative, so fun. All attention grabbing. Illustrated brilliantly. I think any child would love this!
