HAVING FUN WITH PRISMS Prisms can provide such a fun, hands-on way for kids to observe light. Here are some ways to use prisms with preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementary students. Discover how different things look when observed through a prism - see three things w/ three sides to the prism Use colored pencils to color over their rainbows created by the prisms on white paper With 2 prisms, refract the white light to full spectrum and back again SCIENCE EXPERIMENT Find out whether white light can be separated into different colors and simulate how natural rainbows are made Research Questions: Why does a prism create a rainbow from white light? What are the colors of the rainbow? How do you think a natural rainbow is created? Materials: Flashlight with white light bulb A piece of cardboard opaque enough to block light Hole punch A glass prism (can be obtained at a science store) Paper nd pencil Experimental Procedure: Punch a hole in the cardboard. Place the prism on a flat surface. Do in the Dark or under dim lights. Shine the flashlight on the cardboard through the hole and direct it at the prism. What do you see? Now place the second prism in front, but at a slightly different angle than the first one. What happens? PHOTOGRAPHY Create unique and eye-catching results that don't look like photoshop because they're not done in photoshop.
