A funny and charming look at the prejudices that sometimes separate northern and southern Italy and also the quirks of small-town Italian life. Might not mean as much to someone who hasn't spent a lot of time in Italy, but I think it would still be enjoyable for the characters and scenery. There are English subtitles, but you will need a DVD player capable of playing European formats.

A witty and very human story about Italy's north meets south. A very uptight postal inspector is horrified to find himself transferred to the South of Italy. He cries on the way down, and arrives full of prejudices and misconceptions, only to be warmly welcomed. I won't spoil it too much but he leaves in tears again, in fulfilment of a local saying that people cry twice on arriving, once when they arrive and again when they leave. Fans of Valentina Lodovini will appreciate the cinematography :)This film received an ovation when screened at the Italian Film Festival in Sydney 2011, the first time I've ever seen this happen.It also has English subtitles !

Arrived in tact brand new! I checked to make sure it’s working, haven’t watched it yet but I’m looking forward to seeing it tonight! Good quality! Need a region free DVD player to view, totally worth the investment if you want to learn or keep up with a foreign language. I love old Italian movies :)

I love this movie and was so excited to see that I could find it on DVD. However I did not pay attention to the fact that this is a Region 2 DVD meaning it won't work in most DVD players outside of region 2 (Europe, Middle East, ect). Make sure your DVD player can play DVDs from Region 2 before purchasing!All in all, love the movie, just wish I had read the part that said it is a region 2 DVD. Now I just need to find a way to watch it...

light fun film!

DVD was exactly what I was looking for, and delivered quickly. I had seen this movie in a film class, and thought it was hilarious. One of the best Italian films I've seen. I would highly recommend it.I was a little worried because DVD description did not say there were English subtitles, as it turned are there are.As for order process, item shipped within one day of order..shipping time from Germany to Arizona was about a week.

All good. I just wish that the description of the product made it clear that the film came with English subtitles. I'm relieved that it did but would have felt better knowing that up front.

Italian with English subtitles. It is in region 2 format but I was able to play it because I have a region free player. It arrived in good condition well before the posted delivery date. It is a fine comedy and enjoyable.

Habe fünf Sterne vergeben, weil ich mit der DVD sehr zufrieden bin. Die Qualität ist einwandfrei und kann nix bemängeln. Der Film an sich ist ehe klasse und super witzig. Kann ich nur weiter empfehlen.

Having read the other reviews I bought this film thinking the reviews were over the top or at least exaggerated. My husband and I loved the film. Delightfully simple plot wonderfully acted by the cast it portrays a postmaster transferred to a small town near Naples. The understanding of all is that the South have dirty filthy people who don't wash clean with no sense at all. Thick farmers at best. When he gets there he is told that northerners cry when they get there and again when they leave. This is the case here. In desperation at the thought of it on arrival. After a fantastic two years there enjoying every second (and the antics he gets up to telling his wife its hell when he gets a couple of days off to visit his wife back home up north) then his wife comes South to be at his side while he goes through this hell. When two years is up, as they said at the start, tears flow as he prepares to go back north. I have bought the follow up Al Nord hoping it will be as good. An uplifting feel good film for all the family.
