Is this product ready to eat? Or does it have to be boiled/cooked in some way?

Not need to cook it, but I will suggest to put in a colander under cold water for 30 sec and then use it. It will smell fishy when you open the package but after wash it the smell goes away. I use it instead of rice so I normally microwave it for 2 min and ready to eat :)
