Q: Has anyone used these on the tanning ledge (baja shelf) of a saltwater pool? How high off the ground is the butt area?

Not on the tanning ledge...but they are only about 6 inches off the ground...give or take a 1/2 inch.

Q: Can you order replacement slats?

Slats are not not an individual part, therefore can not be replaced.

Q: Could these be mounted together to make a double chaise lounge ?

No. I don't think so. There is a release knob and carry handle on one (right hand) side of each chair. If you removed them on one, you could possibly bolt the bases together (side by side) permanently open, but the upper half of each chair is slightly narrower than the bottom and only the slats you sit on stick out a bit (because when it folds it tucks inside the bottom half) so there would be a gap in the middle of the upper part when put together that could not be bolted.
