Excellent balance between theory and practice!
Highly recommend Drs. Foster and Auerbach's book. As noted by another review I personally love the integration of theory and practice. The authors present data and research supporting the use of positive psychology in coaching while also providing numerous practice tips, ideas, resources, and more that executive coaches (and leaders) can easily apply. Further, while clearly advocates of positive psychology the authors include a chapter (Chapter 10) addressing some of the concerns about being overly positive, focusing too much on strengths, etc. I also appreciate how throughout the book experts have been invited to contribute and share research, opinions, impressions, etc. The book also includes practical assessments/inventories that can be used and in the Appendix Dr. Auerbach's "Well-Being Coaching Client Questionnaire."While written for coaches as I read it seemed to me that many of the practical suggestions would not only benefit executive coaches but also leaders working to build strong and productive teams.Ed Nottingham, PhD, PCCConsulting & Clinical PsychologistAuthor, It's Not as Bad as It Seems: A Thinking Straight Approach to Happiness It's Not As Bad As It Seems

Buy this book!
As a long-time coach and a "student" of positive psychology for many years now, I eagerly anticipated this book. After opening the book, reviewing the table of contents, then doing a quick scan, I realized what an amazing resource I held in my hands. It is chock full of scientifically proven best practices for helping your clients (and yourself!) transform their lives. Foster and Auerbach provide many examples and case studies throughout the book and offer practical "how-to" steps for applying positive psychology to your coaching practice.

A must read for leaders and coaches - it's got it all!
A definite must read for leaders and coaches.Drs. Foster and Auerbach have done a masterful job compiling all the current cutting edge information in the exciting and evolving field of Positive Psychology. Aside from their wealth of experience they have provided the voices of many of leaders in the field, such as Dr. Roy Baumeister, Dr Randall White, Dr. David Peterson, Dr. Robert Emmons, and Judith Glaser to name just half of the contributors. They answer the big questions that will support coaches, consultants and leaders. Why feeing good matters? How do you deal with negative emotions? How do you increase your happiness? How do you use your strengths in new ways? What are the best goal setting strategies? What coaching tools can help you to focus on strengths with clients or direct reports? How do you bring Positive Psychology into organizations and apply to cross-cultural situations. As a practitioner and coach I appreciate how they have integrated tools from leaders such as Martin Seligman, Ed Deiner, Gallup Consulting company, Don Clifton, Heidi Grant Halverson, Sonya Lyubomirsky and Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi all in one place. You will be able to return to this as a resource over and over. To paraphrase Dr. Robert Emmons on page 49, They have passed on a “gift” to all of us that looks for the good receives the good and then give its back to us a book full of golden nuggets.Relly Nadler, Psy.D., MCC, author of Leading with Emotional Intelligence
