Gold standard for the gold standard!
ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription is the gold standard for the gold standard. It extensively goes over how to prescribe exercise for a litany of populations using peer-reviewed hard data to back up its various claims. The new binding makes it easier to flip through pages, gives it a more "book" feel, and allows for easy storage without fear of messing something up. As a personal trainer, I have referenced this book any times and will continue to reference it as I progress through my career. As a college student, this book also comes in handy. I have made several references to it for many health and applied science classes, and have even used it when discussing exercise with friends around campus. You can't go wrong with the American College of Sports Medicine and you definitely cannot go wrong with this resource booklet.

Great book!
The information in this book is evidence based and the writing is easy to read and to understand. here are many tables that make it easy to understand or compare information. One thing I really like about this book is that it gives exercise prescription for many different types of population and for people with different comorbidities. It's a good reference book if you want to get the best and latest info on how to best prescribe exercise for your patients, clients of just for you own personal knowledge.

ACSM is the gold standard, hands down!
I ordered this updated source, as my original one was from the mid-2000's. As usual, ACSM brings forth the best information, and most updated physiological information when it comes to exercise testing and prescription. I always look to them when giving advice, or training clients. And, I will keep looking to them in the future. I recommend this book for anyone who is a personal trainer, or is looking to go into personal training or testing clients in a clinical setting. ACSM is the gold standard, hands down.

Good for everyone.
Don't listen to the meat-heads at the gym. Do some research, and read this book. Easy enough to anyone wanting to get into shape to use. Good guidelines and precautions for any condition, pregnancy, diabetes, and older adults. Plenty of actual research to back up the suggestions inside, not just some gym rat's opinion.

Incredible exercise prescription book
This is a very nice book for professionals that want to understand the basic things before prescribing an exercise to a sedentary person. There are some tips for advanced training but I think that it is more difficult to prescribe since the person has improved his or her capabilities in different ways. Everybody that wants to understand about the causes of cardiac, blood pressure, glicosis diseases and etc and how to prevent it or decrease the effects of the diseases should read this book.

Great Quick Reference for Exercise Science/Kinesiology
If you are doing anything in the exercise science/kinesiology field, this book is a must have. Great quick reference for personal trainers, strength and conditioning, diseased individuals/special populations, or just an overall health nut. I worked as an aid at a physical therapy clinic and was able to answer a lot of the patients' health related questions.

Great resource, only negative is the small print
I'm in the process of studying this along with ACSM's Resources for the Personal Trainer in preparation for taking the certification exam. Overall, the material in the text is comprehensive. However, the reason I give the book only 3 stars is due to very small text size. I'm not a teeny-bopper any more and my eyes are not what they used to be, and the size of this text is quite user unfriendly. I can understand that the book is printed in the size it is to be a small, more handy reference source. However, it is a significant oversight not to provide alternative versions of the physical text (large spiral bound, for instance) and when I contacted the publisher, they weren't even remotely interested in hearing what I had to say, much less thinking about printing more user friendly options. That is the second strike with ACSM, who also cancelled a conference at the last minute that I was scheduled to attend. So while they may be considered a premiere source of Sports Medicine information, they don't rate very high on customer service and courtesy. But, if vision is not an issue for you, you will find the ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing & Prescription to be detailed and useful. Personally I continue to be astonished as I study materials from ACSM, NSCA and others at how differently what they teach is from the actual personal trainer landscape out in the field. When personal training becomes standardized and adheres to the high principles espoused in ACSM's Guide and other books, they will become quite valuable as part of a client's health & fitness team.

Great, complete resource
This is a very complete, thorough resource. It has evidence-based recommendations on who to test with what supervision, how to interpret tests, and how to design a plan for your clients/patients. As a future PT, this is a valuable resource that I'll want to keep and reference throughout the years. I was planning on grabbing an old edition, but my classmates convinced me and I'm not disappointed!

Tolles Buch!
