From a Nurses Standpoint
Glad a medical professional has put out a book for chronic dieters so to speak in regards to how to change your lifestyle and encorporate healthy eating rather than fad diets. Too many people buy the latest trends and think they will lose weight quick and easy. Then their old habits take hold and they gain the weight back tri-fold. This book helps you learn in an easy way how to eat HEALTHY and stop the junk food rage that Americans have indulged themselves in. When you eat healthy and portion control, you will lose weight, make a change in your overall lifestyle eating habits, and obtain and maintain the weight and wellness you desire. And this is what that book does. I am a RN whom has been on the fast food diet and junk food binge for the past 5 years since I entered into the chaotic world of healthcare. You need food on the go working crazy hours and it is so easy to grab your comfort foods in order to cope with stress at work and save time. However, 5 years in and 30 pounds heavier I felt the affects extra weight and lack of physical activity outside of work has had on my body. Not only did I feel the effects of my unhealthy lifestyle, my lab work confirms my body's need to change. My triglycerides were triple the amount above a healthy range and my total cholesterol was at the higher end of "normal". I am 27 years old and recognize the harmful effects of bad cholesterol as I take care of cardiac patients and approx 96% of them have high lipids. With that being said, I read this book, started fully encorporating the advice I received from this book, and I feel amazing. I have lost weight without going to the gym, and now I have more energy to do the things I love. I am walking my dogs 3 times a day, hiking, and doing household chores without lagging on my days off. I am so thankful for this book as it has changed my lifestyle and if you fully encorporate this book into your everyday life, you will see and feel results as well. My fiancé is a type one diabetic and he has also learned from this book how to properly manage his diabetes following advice from his endocrinologist as well, and his lab results confirm it. I hope more people read this book rather than look for the quick fix, because you will only make yourself feel worse in the long term. Learn to live a healthy lifestyle, stay away from drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes as a habitual indulgence, and you too can find true happiness and how beautiful life can really be. So thank you doctor, for publishing a book without paying a lot of money to get the same advice from a dietician. You have changed my life and you are doing an amazing thing for people you will never know or see, which is why I assume you got into the healthcare field to begin with. I can only aspire to be as wonderful as you have been in my nursing career to make a true Difference in others lives like you have done for me. :) read the book. Well worth your eyes and time!!!

Medicine in a book
I personally don't need to lose weight and I like exercising(working out) so I got this book for my mom. However, I decided to do the STAT plan with her(she wanted to lose weight) and it helps having someone do this plan with you. I would highly recommend having a buddy who will participate in this diet with you. The struggle was real! The book starts with the STAT plan which is about a 2 week strict food diet. It's kind of a crash diet because a crash diet is "-a weight-loss diet undertaken with the aim of achieving very rapid results." which it does. It's also not a crash diet because after 2 weeks you go into the RESTORE portion of the food diet and then you go to the MAINTAIN portion of the food diet. You go back and forth between the 3 stages until you get your desired results. Also the book has recipes(which I found very useful), facts about certain foods(ie sugar, milk etc) and unbiased advice on nutrition. If you trying to lose weight you do not need someone trying to make you feel bad about the type of food you prefer; Travis Stork doesn't do that. After two weeks I lost about 5-8 pounds but I exercised(20 min high intensity cardio 2-3 times a week with a 5 min run 2 times week), slept well and I'm a habitual walker[meaning: I rarely drive and I don't have muscle tee bodyguards to carry me around]. I saw a vast improvement with my memory and thanks to this book I'm pretty sure my memory problems have to do with the amount of bread I consume. Even, though Dr. Stork doesn't require no bread during the STAT portion I decided that I was going to omit bread completely. My mom lost about 2-3 pounds which is probably a bit more accurate in terms of expectations of weight loss. She also worked out maybe once or twice a week and still ate bread. Sadly, I did not stick with the plan after the STAT portion and neither did my mom. However, we both adopted quite a few eating habits from this book hence the 4 star review so even though I tried it was hard to go back to eating poorly; your taste buds will change. If you're thinking about purchasing it check it out from your local library first.

Very convoluted
Lots of frills and fluff to sell a product that isn’t even completely accurate…not worth it.

Ok
Not what I thought it would be. I found it a little monotonous

An inspiring book
Travis has created a book that informs, but never dictates. I was thoroughly addicted to reading all about nutrition and the impact that a good diet and exercise plays in all our lives. It certainly changed my outlook. A very worthwhile read!!

Dr Travis is on to something!!!
I started "The Doctors Diet" 2 weeks ago and although I was slightly worried about starting it, I have to admit I love it. I have lost 9lb in the first 2 weeks (Dr Travis says up to 10lb in the first 2 weeks). There is a meal planner for each part of the diet or you can make up your own menu by following his food list. It really couldn't be easier. I definitely recommend "The Doctors Diet" book 100%, well worth the buy.
