No, not shorter, however there is another model 82 02 200. It is the same pair of pliers but with "comfort grip" handles.

Are these made in germany?

Yes. If you zoom in on the 4th pic, where the jaws are open, you can see the made in Germany embossment. I have dozens of Knipex tools and all are marked this way.

what is the opening max for the jaws? just trying to figure out if it will still function on 1"or 2" pipe as a customary slip joint plier would.

These would not, no. Knipex lists the gripping capacity of these pliers for diameters and widths ranging from 4 - 22mm (5/32 - 7/8").

Wth, not cool knipex. been waiting for these to come available and now the price has doubled???

Note that the answer that justifies more than doubling the price is the one selling it for more than 2x. Before it went to Not Available status it was being sold by Amazon, even though I saved Amazon as the seller it reverted to this new supply and demand pricing. If you take the time to actually look at all pricing it is now one dollar cheaper than the price it was before becoming not available and 54.7% cheaper than the seller trying to justify the higher cost if you purchase it from Amazon. It only make sense as they will never get that price once regular delivery is available on August 28

Great pliers

Knipex doesn’t disappoint. I never knew how much I’d use these pliers. I use them everyday it seems. Whether I’m removing grease zerks, or operating piston jacks. It’s expensive compared to other slip joint pliers, but well worth it. Even working in a sandy environment, the locking mechanism never jams, and adjusts smoothly.Being knipex, it’s top tier quality, and is the perfect size for most anything I do as a heavy equipment and big rig mechanic. It also has proven well being used to remove stubborn stripped screw.

Somewhat unique from Knipex

I’ve bought quite a few Knipex tools over the years. Always good quality with unique twists. Never had one fail in any way. These are well made, narrower than normal pliers, which allows better reach in confined spaces, and have the front teeth to remove stripped fasteners. Highly recommended.

Rock Solid Performer

I have become a major fan of the Knipex forged pliers line! I do a lot of automotive mechanical work and occasionally rebuild transfer cases for Jeeps. The internal keeper rings can really be a bear to get out without causing damage to the ring or case. These pliers grasp those rings firmly and allow for easy removal. I have a lot of really high quality pliers but none of them will work as well in tight places under extreme pressure like these. I don't use these for everything but, I'm sure they would serve well for many purposes. I'm a bit of a tool junkie and I will actually buy a tool for one specific job.This whole line of Knipex forged pliers are amazing!
