An excellent enclosure!
I was a little concerned about picking up this enclosure. Some of the reviews made me nervous admittedly... Mediasonics web page does not work, does not contain a real support system Beyond emailing them directly, and a web forum. A forum!? Really!? There is no direct support, like anyone else has on their web page, you know? Like the word support, that you can click on, select your model, and pull down a manual, or a firmware. This is not the case, and all of these things really turned me off this enclosure.But... I picked it up, I ran all of my tests, and filled this thing with four 8 terabyte Enterprise drives. You know what? It works perfectly!Recommendations to you!1. Read the manual, with its broken English.2. Do not throw it away.3. There is nothing wrong with the enclosure shutting down, if you do not have a connected to anything, and you do not set a raid configuration, within the next 10 seconds of turning it on. The drive will sleep. It blows my mind, that even when you look into the forums, Mediasonic, is still having to tell people that.So read!I have not pushed this device Beyond its 10Gb/s barrier, flooding its operations, causing disconnects all over the place. I have not experienced this. This enclosure runs full time, and obviously, works best with Enterprise drives, designed for RAID configuration. I have not had my RAID disconnect, or have to be rebuilt, from it breaking randomly. So far, I have had a pleasant experience with this enclosure, and can recommend it to others. Although mediasonics web page is much to be desired, and support, beyond their email service, is a throwback to the early 90s. I am enjoying my experience with it.Read the manual, use appropriate drives, enjoy the enclosure, that's it.Just one more thing. It is said that this box does not support Linux, that is fine. But the truth the matter is, Linux supports it. My single drive, or raid configuration, works just perfectly, and is identified correctly, within multiple Linux environments.I hope this will be helpful.

Most reliable backup HHD I've owned
I've experienced numerous failures with external HDD backup drives. However, since purchasing this enclosure in 2020, the Toshiba drives have consistently been recognized and are still operational. Previously, external drives would last only one or two years at best.

The worst of worlds
I bought this to back up a PC using usb C 3.1 but I ended up throwing it in a corner and getting something else. From the outside it was sturdy feeling. But installing hard drives was bad. There is no mechanism to guide it so the drives connect. You just push it in and wonder if you should apply more pressure and maybe break something or tilt the back of the drives up or down because they have a lot of play. Once I got them installed, I found that it's two separate hardware raids, one for the top two and another for the bottom two. After trying several times before getting both pairs of drives to come up, I found that while USB C 3.1 is theoretically very fast, this unit passes everything through a tiny, underpowered cpu which made it so slow as to be unusable to me. I wish it would just power the hard drives and let me format from my desktop machine and access the drives straight from USB 3.1 but the little cpu handles everything too slowly to function. I finally removed the drives and bought a Synology NAS which works perfectly.
