Q: How do these get installed. The instructions are not clear at all.

Hi, simply insert the cords from the top of the open tassel into the hole and tie a knot to keep the cord in place. Be sure both cords are equal in length. Please see pics 2 and 7 in the listing. Next, bring the two side together, from the bottom. They will close tightly when pressed together. For 4 cords, make sure the lengths are the same. 2 cords will go in the holes and knotted and 2 will be knotted and gently placed in the open holes before the tassel is closed. It's a little tricky at first but works fine. Hope this instruction is helpful. Thanks, Shelby

Q: how thick of cords can be used?

The four holes are 3/32 of an inch in diameter. If the cords are any thicker than that, you won't be able to thread them through the holes in order to tie a knot to secure each individual cord inside the tassel.
