Life Lessons of a Legend

Thousands of Parrotheads knew Tony because of Last Mango In Paris...
...but not many knew much more about him. I thought it was a blast he hailed from Elizabeth, NJ & tried to get one over on the mob (typical Jersey hutzpah!) & ran off to Key West. I try to find the jewel in everyone like Tony says, and if I have a life half as interesting as his, it'll be a life well-lived. Parrothead or not, you'll like this guy, & this book. May Capt. Tony rest in peace- it is well-earned & well-deserved.

Everything you wanted to know about the Captain.
What a labor of love to read this. I like many were exposed to Captain Tony through my love of Jimmy Buffett's music. I'm reading it very slowly because I don't want it end... It's kind of like good sex lol. Captain Tony is one of the original badasses. I'm proud to say that on one of our last trips to Key West my son and I got to meet him. My son's favorite Buffett song was always Last Mango in Paris. It was an exciting father son time I've been there many times and not seen him but to walk in and actually meet him was amazing. To read this book now kind of gives me specific information about his life. One of a kind. A great read.

Understand it’s intentions and you’ll love it
No, it’s not a biography of Tony Tarricino’s life - although you learn a great deal about his life as he shares the stories with the author. As the title indicates, it’s the life lessons learned from the legend that was Capt Tony. I think the author truly captured the power of those lessons by sharing how his own life was impacted by his time with the Captain. Great book!

A great read about an amazing person
Being a Parrot Head who goes to MOTM every year and since I once had a chance to talk with Capt. Tony, I was anxious to read this book and I was not disappointed. Sure you can quibble that the author told us too much about his own life and not enough about the Captain, but that was the point of the book - the lessons that he learned from his talks with Captain Tony. I would love to have a more extensive biography about Captain Tony, but until that happens this will do. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the good Captain. It is a very fun read.

This is the Tony Tarracino that I knew
I sat many times next to Tony in his famous saloon in Key West, drinking beer and listening to him tell about all the years before. This was in thelate 1970's and Life Lessons of a Legend captured all there was to know about Captain Tony. I bought the book to see if it confirmed what Tony hadrelayed to me and it did more than that; for example, his gun running went into much more detail than I had known as did the detail of his various loves and marriages......As was told to Tony, put your memories in a book as a book will live on forever. Well, to the author, thanks to you Tony does live on forever now.

A True Life Lesson
As a parrot head, I picked up this book as I have with many others, assuming it was required reading right along with the Coconut Telegraph. After reading it in nearly a single sitting, which I hardly ever do, I realized it was much more than a pirate story. I found that not only did I learn a lot about both Capt Tony and the author, but I also learned some things about myself. There are several lessons that rang true for me in this book that I hope to carry forward in my own interactions and relationships. This book is in no way meant to be any kind of a self-help story, but you can't help but to think that if more people saw the world through The Captain's eyes, we would live in a much better place. True compassion!
