Good, but not perfect
First up: I love the biolight stove; I don't even use the charging facility much but the thermoelectric fan really lets you just substantial heat out of very little wood, and not have to carry propane. But on to the grill attachment: it's a good addition to the biolite stove, but not perfect. Heat distribution is decent and the flip-top is essential to keep the flame high without having to remove food. It doesn't heat exactly evenly, but you have to expect that since the heat source is obviously a much smaller area that the grill surface and offset to the side. You have to move around food a fair amount, but not more than I'd expect.I'm deducting one star for two reasons:- The top and bottom edges are pretty sharp; it does come with a plastic cover but it's when you're setting up or tearing down that your hands will be on the bare metal and most likely to cut yourself. I took a metal file to the edges to soften them a bit.- The stability of the attachment is sub-par. The fold-out legs support the grill just fine, but the bottom portion mostly just sits on top of the bio-lite. There's a small detent that makes it look like it should snap into the top of the biolite stove, but that doesn't fit properly inside the canister. (Note that I tested this prior to filing the edges so it wasn't due to that modification.) Some sort of clamp or proper detent would be nice.Overall, a great small grill that could use a couple improvements, but I'd much rather cart this around for "luxury camping" than a propane stove and canisters.

Works great for quick grilling
This grill works well if you follow a few tips.Use dry wood. Shorter sticks 3-4 inches.Get grill good and hot on high blower then back down to low.You should only cook items that are made to cook fast and hot.It will require constant tending and rotation of food.Hamburgers, hot dogs, small steaks are great. Whole pieces of bone-in chicken will not cook well. Wings or deboned slices do fine. For an impressive meal try this.Get lamb chops "frenched" style and cut into individual little chops. Drizzle some good olive oil over them.Liberal sprinkle of garlic powder and fresh black pepper. A little salt.Thin slices of zuchinni and sliced peppers. Any kind of pepper will do depending on how much heat you like. Also a little olive oil.Get er fired up.Use a small pair of tongs to turn and rotate food and to lift lid and keep fire going. The rib is a handle and makes for great finger food.Hot and fast is how this grill cooks. When you are done cooking add a generous amount of wood, push button for high, and you will blowtorch grill clean. After it cools wipe off ashes and soot and attach cover. It might be possible to clean it to that shiny stainless steel but why bother.UpdateAfter a couple of years maybe used 20 times it is very rusty. The hinge on the lid rusted out.

Bio-lite grill
The flavor is very heavily wood smoked with an objectionable intensity when cooking start to finish on this grill.I found that if I wrapped the meat( Chicken, burgers, hot dogsor steak) in aluminum foil and cooked, turning once in the foil, and then fiinshing the meat on the open grill, that the flavor was very good and the meats were properly cooked. (The finished meat was not as good as on a regular grill but fine for camping.)With no foil the meats should be pan cooked and then finished off on the grill.Strong woods like mesquite and cherry are too intense to use without precooking the meats, but are very good added when finishing off the meats on the grill. Intense flame will coat the grill with a creosote like tar that is hard to clean at camp. So low fire cooking, while taking longer, is better. The grill is very messy to clean if basting the meats with BBQ sauce, so this would be added last and sparingly.Covering the very bottom of the grill with aluminun foil helps, but covering the mest defeats the difusion intent.I can`t imagine this grill working well for vegetables, but I will experiment soon. I would imagine that a low fire or coals would work best for them, especially if lightly pan or foil cooked first and then finished off on the grill for the char flavor.the grill requires almost constant additions of small amounts of wood to keep the heat regulated. It burns dowm very quickly and adding too much wood causes the over smoked creosote tast in the food. This grill was a good idea, I`ll keep it, It just requires a lot of experimenting to get right.

Nice way to extend your cook surface
I left a long review on the BioLite stove, but this is just for the grill attachment. It adds more surface area to your cook stove. The very hot fire is easier to keep up with the grill than with a pot over the stove itself because of the easy access flap. Just note, what you're cooking matters. Thick burgers (like mine) require nearly constant flipping and moving around due to the high heat at the center and almost none at the outside. Make your meats as thin as possible. We did veggie kabobs of fire wires, and straight kabobs would have been easier to rotate and move for even charring. It was still edible.Note: if using wood pellets rather than gathered twigs, the fire gets EXTREMELY hot. The fuel flap actually turned red as the full load of pellets ran for about 25 minutes. Have a tool or stick handy for touching the grill.I like that they give you a cover for the top and fire hole of the grill, because it was filthy immediately after using, even after cleaning. I kept the cardboard mold to further encase the soot. The BioLite would not be recommended for serious backpackers, but for car campers it's a neat idea for small meals which takes considerably less time to prepare than a charcoal grill.

Good product - but important information is missing from the user manual
This is a good accessory for the BioLite Camp Stove. It effectively turns the stove into a wood-fired grill and is great for BBQs when camping and doing picnics. Aside from some distortion issues (more on that later) the product cooks really well. The metal flame spreader that sits under the grill does a really good job of distributing heat to whatever's being cooked. The small holes in the flame spreader allow the heat to pass through but stop the flames from contacting the food directly. This ensures that food doesn't char, and also means that fatty foods such as sausages won't catch on fire. It makes cooking anything from sausages and burgers to kebabs and steaks a real breeze, and I haven't had a single item of food burn yet.The stove is big enough to cook for a family of four as long as people don't mind waiting for their food. I usually manage to fit on about three large burgers in one go, or between four and six sausages/kebabs (depending upon how long they are). Of course, being a wood-fired grill the food tastes great. Much better than gas-fired BBQs! The lid is also well thought out and keeps all the soot inside the stove after use. It's a bit flimsy however, and I'm pretty sure that the tab holding the two parts of the lid together will break at some point. So far a glowing review, so why only four stars? After the very first use of this product the metal flame spreader and grill distorted quite badly in the heat. I contacted BioLite customer services and they told me that this can happen if the BioLite Stove is set to the 'high' fan setting rather than the 'low' setting. Using the high setting basically creates more heat than the Stove Grill can handle, thus causing the metal to warp. Biolite kindly offered to (and did) replace the distorted parts so I can't fault their customer service. That being said, there is no mention in the manual that using the high fan setting can damage the grill. Whilst it does say that a low fan setting is recommend, in actual fact is an important requirement as once the metal parts warp they no longer fit together. If you already own the Biolite Camp Stove then this product is a good investment - just don't use the high fan setting!!!

If you like cooking then this is a must!!
As the Biolite gets up to temp extremely quick, there is no waiting around like you need to do with a BBQ. I use this often when cooking chicken or steak, which gives a taste that just can't be replicated in the kitchen. Be aware, once used, it will never be 'shiney new' again.
