It's a good book to contact, for the first time, the oniric surrealism of Leonora Carrigton.

disappointing
Good opening line... and then it's all downhill, alas. Of course it has interest for those who want to learn about the female contribution to surrealism, and you might sympathize with what Carrington is trying to achieve in this confessional work (because you like her painting), yet it doesn't hold a candle to Anna Kavan's Asylum Pieces as an adventure in Kafkaesque tribulation.

The Mind of a Surrealist.
Ms. Carrington gives her account of fleeing from France amidst the pending Nazi occupation. She finds herself committed to an asylum in Spain. For anyone who has ever experienced psychosis, grandiose and delusions, this is a must read book. The honest account is sure to resonate and provide a deeper understanding of anyone who has an interest in the way the mind works during times of great stress.
