The book itself is excellent. As many have mentioned, the book has been around for years.The Essential Elements online resources including student management, assignments, and play along sound tracks for the exercises depends on a valid EEi activation code.The code in the book was not valid.However, I notified the company, and they sent me a working code by email within 24 hours. So, all is well that ends well.If you want to utilize the online resources, purchasing may be a bit of a risk. I'm grateful that the company sent a working code. The discount price factored into the decision to purchase.If you just want the physical book, it's an excellent resource and you can buy without hesitation. My copy was new, packaged well, and in pristine condition upon arrival.

I ordered essential elements for strings and got essential elements for strings 2000. It will still work because it is almost identical but I was seriously disappointed because of the almost in that sentence. The student elements are the same in both books so I can still teach my class, but the teachers section has a couple of differences I wanted.

Probably the best, most commonly used technique book in the string world today. Everything has very clear directions, and it introduces concepts slowly, one at a time. It leaves a lot of things up to the teacher's discretion. I love the use of duets later in the book. I wish the CD accompaniment went farther into the later pieces, and I also wish they discussed bowing techniques a little earlier than they do.

I use this with a string instrument class. It's so much easier than juggling several books to see what the students have on their pages, since smaller versions are visible on my page. I can talk notes and fingerings easily without having to waste instruction time walking over to see what the student books have.
