Bento picnics are special
Perfect for the bento box experience. Where's the furoshiki? Love to do either Hawaii or Japan style special at an otherwise regular picnic or outing. These are not to be confused with the functionally efficient, spill-proof, camping/backpacking, pack-your-quickie lunch (though there are now small bento style lunch boxes that do have spill-proof plastic covers). These are affordable plastic versions of historic picnic boxes made of wood and lacquered with sometimes exotic precious elements and exquisite art--mostly in collections now. Have had some great lunches with these but takes planning and preparation. There are great bento box cookbooks that include simple and easy recipes. I like to cook some of my own dishes that are bento winners and buy some at a Japanese market. They are special.

These are great for entertaining!
These are great for entertaining. We went sailing in Mexico a couple of weeks ago and the crew served us snacks in these bento boxes. All on board were impressed. So much so, I came home and ordered 4 for us and 2 as Christmas gifts along with a great adult bento cookbook. We're having people over this weekend and I'm serving up an Asian themed lunch in these. These are also stackable on one another for easy storage. When I serve in these, I put the lid on and let the guest open it like a lovely surprise gift. There's so many things and cuisines these will work with. Super fun.

MADE IN JAPAN
I bought 6 of these obento boxes for a Japanese dinner. I didn’t want to pay a fortune so these were reasonably priced. I was delighted when I saw the quality... just like a Japanese restaurant. Some reviews say they look cheap and plastic but for the price I thought they looked good. Who is going to expect real lacquered boxes which would cost a fortune? The bonus is these are MADE IN JAPAN not China! I’m happy!

Good dinner tray
( DOES NOT INCLUDE A LID ) I bought it thinking it'd be a smaller size lunch box but I was disappointed to find out that it is a huge tray with no lid. Works well as a plate and looks good. That's all its got going for it.

Pricey, but love them!
I made another review to the wrong seller and product!! I'm hoping this will post! I love these Bento Boxes!! They are very sturdy and exactly what is at our local Japanese restaurant. We love our sushi and make it often. I feel the price is a bit high for what it is, but definitely love them!!

it's beautiful and even though I made the mistake of thinking ...
First of all, let me just say that I was not expecting this to be a serving size tray. It's big, it's beautiful and even though I made the mistake of thinking that it could be used as a portion control tray for my dinner meal, I still like it. It would definitely not serve as a meal tray for one person. It definitely is a serving tray size to arrange food on it and serve to people. Again, this mistake is no fault to anyone (Amazon or Seller) but myself. I will use it at some point (I do make sushi frequently) but for the purpose of what I was looking for, I will probably have to get an actual bento box. I will say that this tray is more beautiful in person than the picture shows on the listing. Even with my mistake, I still give this a 5 star rating because it is a beautiful item.

Pretty Cheap Plastic
I've found it really hard to count on descriptions and ratings lately on Amazon goods, and this is an example. For $30, it's more or less cheap plastic. The description sounds lavish -- like an affordable reproduction of a bento box. But, no, it just feels like something you'd get at an American dollar store. Very disappointing for the price.
