Douglas XB-19

An intercontinental bomber...
In 1935, following the fielding of the B-17, the U.S. Army Air Corps undertook the next step in the fielding of an Air Force fit for a future world war. That next step took the form of a huge bomber with hemispheric reach. The Douglas Aircraft Corporation managed its development, resulting in the fielding of the prototype XB-19 in 1941.As is often the case with bleeding edge technology, the XB-19 was ahead of its time. It would spend its working lifetime as a testbed, and a very interesting one. Author William Wolf has compiled the fascinating details, along with lots of period photographs and modern illustrations. Strictly for experimental aircraft buffs, but well recommended to that audience.

Silverplate B-19???
The book was well written, much like other titles in the X Planes series. However, I can't get beyond the description of a Silverplate B-19 flying the Hiroshima mission, as the "Enola Gay", as described on page 67 and illustrated with a two page spread on pages 68-69. How did this egregious mistake ever get by the editor or is it an attempt at alternative history?
